Florence M. Peaks was born on August 7, 1934, in Buckingham, VA, to the late Tyree W and Mary M Peaks. On Wednesday December 7, 2022, Florence took her flight to glory at the age of 88 in Bronx, New York.

Florence accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Ingram Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev C. M. Ellis. In 1952 she graduated from Simmons High School in Montgomery, WV at the age of 18. Florence moved to Manhattan, New York where she joined the neighborhood Baptist Church and became a member of the choir. She loved singing hymns and praises. She made a point to read her bible every morning and meditate giving the Lord all the praise and glory.

Florence loved to cook and experiment with her cooking. She often dreamed about opening a restaurant. Her true passion was giving to others in need. She would make sandwiches and give it to anyone that appeared to be hungry. She would make cakes and walk over to the 46th Police precinct just to thank them for keeping the streets safe. Florence was heavily involved in her community and in 2002 she was elected as President of the Housing Association where she hosted fund raising events to support the youth and senior citizens.

Florence was blessed with a spirit that was outgoing, warm, loving and compassionate. Florence enjoyed talking and laughing. She loved her family and friends. She also held a place in her heart for “Circle of Sisters”, a special group of friends who have come together in support of each other through life’s challenges. Today, these women say farewell to their friend in Christ – a sister who fought a good fight and whose vibrant personality and personal style will forever be missed.

Along with her parents, Florence is preceded in death by six brothers: Evan, Charles, Clarence, Godfrey, Cary, and a baby boy who died at birth; and four sisters: Helen, Connie, Louise, and Selena

She leaves to mourn three sons: Darius C Peaks, London, Ohio; Randolph Bouyea (Wynona) of Bristow, VA; and Hans Peaks, East Windsor, NJ. One sister, Blanche R. Peaks, Columbus, Ohio. One grandson, Antuan Bouyea, Bristow, VA; two granddaughters, Latoya (Joshua) Harris, Denton, TX, and Asia Peaks, East Windsor, NJ. Four great granddaughters; Aaliyah Harris; Amaya Harris; Zaniya Harris and Sharon Harris, all of Denton, TX. Two sisters-in-law, Helen M. Peaks, Columbus, Oh and Gloria Peaks, Manhattan, New York. A host of nephews, nieces, relatives, friends and special friends, Mrs. Claudette Jones, Mrs. Cora Bishop and Ms. Lessie Davis of Bronx, New York.

Beyond Life’s Gateway

There’s an open gate at the end of the road
Through which each must go alone
And there, in a light we cannot see,
Our Father claims his own.

Beyond the gate, your loved one
Finds happiness and rest.
And there is comfort in the thought
That a loving God knows best.
