Florence B. Washington was born July 9, 1934 in Yazoo City, Mississippi to the parents of Columbus and Georgia Washington. Florence graduated from St. Francis Catholic High School in Yazoo, Mississippi. She was one of twelve children.

Florence moved to Columbus, Ohio in the early 1950’s. She worked various jobs until she was hired at the Ohio State University Main Hospital as an Attending Nurse. Florence married Chavez Moncrief, Jr., and to this union seven children were born. Florence later married James A. White and he preceded her in death. Florence loved Love Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she attended regularly and faithfully. Florence also loved to go shopping, traveling, wearing fancy hats, watching OSU football and basketball games. She also loved watching Christmas cartoons, Gomer Pyle, Andy Griffith, Dancing with the Stars, and of course taking pictures. Golden Corral, Cracker Barrel, Subway and the Cornel (KFC) were her favorite places to eat, and most of all helping people in any way she could. She was also known to be a prankster.

Florence is preceded in death by her husband, James A. White; and daughters, Claudean Moncrief and Cheryl Moncrief.

Florence leaves to cherish her memories, children, Michael (Joyce) Moncrief of Columbus, Ohio, Linda Moncrief of Columbus, Ohio, Harold (Melissa) Moncrief of Holly Springs, Mississippi, Anthony Moncrief of Columbus, Ohio, Claudette Moncrief of Columbus, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; best friends and confidants, Annie Chaney and Lela Sealey; and a host nieces and nephews.

Florence lived a long good life and will truly be missed but her smile, soft and encouraging words will be with us all forever.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Love Zion Baptist Church, 1459 Madison Ave.

Interment at Arlington Memorial Gardens.
