Gilbert Russell “June” Abbington, Jr. was born August 11, 1970; He departed life unexpectedly at the tender age of 47 on June 15, 2018.

June is preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert Sr. and Willa Abbington.

Gilbert, affectionately known as June or Junior was known to be cool, calm and collected. He was an avid lover of rap music. He also inspired to become a rapper one day. His passion for music led him to become a self-taught DJ. He played music for all of his family and friends’ events. He loved to fish and found solace in doing so.

June was employed as a School Bus Driver for 11 years at Columbus City Schools. He loved his summers off; this gave him more time to fish.

June was a Great and Loving Husband, Stepdad, Brother, Son, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, God-Father and Friend. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED.

June leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Marva; stepdaughter, Micah Bailey; sister, Charmell (John) Abbington; brother, Tyron (LaVonna) Abbington; uncle, Rickey Abbington; aunt, Rennetta Ridley; God-daughter, Ja’Myia Lacey; nieces, Charrelle Jackson, Seritha Abbington, Aleana Abbington , Nykilah Shepard, and Markilah Perry; nephews, Daryl Abbington, Darrell Jackson, Gilbert Abbington, and Marquis Perry; special cousin, Tiffany Ridley; and a host of great nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

June will be sorely missed by everyone that had the pleasure and privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished forever.

To the family of Gilbert, you have my deepest sympathy in your loss. Words can not express the pain we feel when a close family bond is broken by death! May your faith in God’s promises grow as his word at 1 Corinthians 15:25, 26 says, “For he (Jesus) must rule as king until God has put all enemies under his feet. 26 And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.”

I’m so sorry for your loss. I can only imagine how you must feel. I have found comfort in scriptures like Job 14:14,15 which remind me that God cares so deeply for us that he yearns for the day when he will bring us back to life on earth (John 5:28, 29). I hope that these words bring you comfort as well.
