I have no words to describe what the Colonel meant to me or the countless others he mentored, protected and propelled to be better. He truly was one of a kind. God poured His Spirit into this man and he portioned it out into all he encountered. His courage and strength were leaned upon by many of his contemporaries who feared coming out from the shadows. He carried the banner for those who couldn’t carry one for themselves and paved the way many would travel and benefit from. Sir, you ran the race the Lord set before you and you did it without grumbling, complaining and with a grace unparalleled. I love you and am a better man for knowing you. RIP sir, you will be greatly missed. Family, rest assuredly, knowing your patriarch left a lasting legacy.

I can remember so many stories Dad will tell me about Gil. So many laughs they shared. Every time I got to see Gil in person, he always smiled, joked and we laughed. When Major Huffman was ill, I had the pleasure of visiting him at the same til Gil was there. It is something to remember. Gil was a 110% professional as a member of the State Highway Patrol He served with dignity

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Gil! He was my Chief for the 15 years he served with the Sheriff’s Office and he was a real pleasure to work with. He seemed genuinely concerned with how we were all doing, took good care of the troops, always had a friendly word, and was never without his trademark smile. Gil left his mark on the Sheriff’s Office just as he left his mark on those around him; and we are the better because of him. He will be missed!

My condolences to Charlene, Stacey and the rest of the Jones family. My heart was broken into a million little pieces when I heard the news of his passing. I was honored to know this great man of integrity, as a mentor and supporter. He believed in meeting people where they were in their lives, and accepted them unconditionally. I think him for being genuine and sincere and always saying the right words to help you get through those challenging times. But know without a doubt he left a lasting legacy in this world. He will be truly missed. May God keep him in the comfort of his heavenly home.

Charlene, I’m so sorry to read about Gil. I was extremely close to him at P49. I loved working with him & it pains me to know that he passed. I’m sure that you realize I can relate as I lost Carol to cancer. My prayers are with you and your family. God has got to bless him in heaven as the super job he did here on earth.

It was a pleasure to work with Gil at the Sheriff’s Office. His good spirit, compassion and humor were valued during routine and troubled times. He was a model public servant and an exceptional human being. Surely his reward will be great.

I thank you and the family for your support. It takes a lot to be the available leader and mentor Gil displayed. The phone rings for duty and assistance regularly and mostly early. He couldn’t provide without your support. You could count on Gil to ANSWER.

I remember playing basketball with Gil everyday at lunchtime. I loved his competitive fire and how he would run you into screens. I remember my fear many years ago, of being summoned by Gil to come to the house. You welcomed me and tried to put me at ease. He knew I needed help and luckily it was a positive experience. Once again he ANSWERS the call.

We love Gil because he was that figure to a lot of us. He showed us character and multiple ways to deal with life. He was a man of his word and never TOO busy to help. If people attempt to be the man he was and even fail, this world would be a better place. He is our Martin, Jackie, and Thurgood!! He ANSWERED the calls.

God said, I gave you life to share, the opportunity to build MANY memories, and to provide a great legacy. Now it’s time to come to GLORY. Gil ANSWERED.

In closing, I’ll never forget Gil for all he has done for me and others. Me and my family are grateful for the life lessons he taught us and I thank God for the memories.
