Glory N. Pratt, age 83. Sunrise June 21, 1939 and Sunset November 4, 2022.
Our Matriarch, born Glory Nell Stoumile to the parents of (Father) Sodick Stoumile who was born February 28, 1896 from Prattville, Alabama, and (Mother) Linnie Melton Jones who was born May 23, 1908 in West Virginia. Glory’s parents married in Fayetteville, West Virginia in 1939. Glory was the third oldest of eight children (Anne, William/Bill, Glory, Larry, Eloise, Brenda, Donna, and Yolanda). After losing her mom, and her dad becoming ill, Glory was awarded custody of her two youngest sisters Donna and Yolanda, building a special relationship that remains today with her sister Donna.
Glory Nell Stoumile was born on June 21, 1939 in Logan, West Virginia. Her parents moved to Fayevetteville, then to Beckley, West Virginia. Glory graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, West Virginia. The Stoumile Family, being new to Lanark, West Virginia is where Glory met her childhood sweetheart Alfonza Carey Sr., known as “Chubby.” With her father presiding over the wedding, Glory married her childhood sweetheart in 1960 a week after giving birth to her firstborn daughter Cathey Leveira Stoumile-Fountain. Within the first year of marriage Glory and her family relocated to Columbus, Ohio where she had five more children, Alfonza Jr., Brian, Susie, Karen, and Felicia. Glory embraced Columbus as her new home with her siblings later following her lead. Glory was divorced and later married thus the name Pratt.
With her father being a licensed minister, Glory was reared in the Christian faith, and longed to be in the house of The Lord. In the early 70’s Glory joined Shady Grove Baptist church under the leadership of Bishop Charles Davis. It was here where she built lasting friendships and relationships that bonded like family. In the early 1980’s, Glory transitioned her membership to Cornerstone Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Bishop Wilbert and the late Lady Christine Butler where she remained for over a decade. During the early 2000’s Glory joined Miracle Cathedral under the tutelage of Bishop Jerry L. Pierce, where she was an active member serving on several ministries up until her diagnosis of dementia.
Glory served her hand in many things working in secretarial work for several banks. However, her ultimate love was cooking and baking in several kitchens throughout the city and her home. The holidays will never be the same without her Rum Cakes, Sweet Potatoe Pies or her Homemade Rolls. Her ultimate specialty was her infamous chicken or Beef “Egg Rolls.” We just may be doomed forever😂.
After becoming a grandmother, Glory soon became known as “Nanny” by everyone who knew her. Nanny grew stronger and stronger with having to date Thirty (30) Grandchildren, forty-six (46) Great Grand-Children, and Thirty-Two (32) Great-Great Grand-Children. She was “Nanny” in the community, and Nanny at the church. She just may have been “Nanny” even to you.
Glory is proceeded in death by her daughters Felicia Carey and Cathey Fountain, her grandson Donald Turns, and Great-Grandson Tajuan Stoumile, Jr., her parents Sodick and Linnie Stoumile, Sisters Eloise Stoumile, Anne James, and Yolanda Peters, Brother William Bill Martin, Nieces’ Theodora Lynn and Vanessa Stoumile.
Glory leaves to cherish her precious memories, her children Alfonza, Jr., Brian (Malisia), Susie, and Karen. Her siblings Brenda Shepherd, Larry and Donna Stoumile, her grand-children Misty, Tajuan, Portia, Izaak, Passion, Marquetta, Taquida, John, Pashuana, Martin, Jona, Jason, Donnell, Donita, Patrick, Porter, David, Brent, Briana, Paula, Maurice, Maurick, Joshua, Nathaniel, Marlene, Brian, Jr., Tyrone, Andrea, Special Grandson Jordan. Thirty-Seven Great Grandchildren, Thirty-Two Great-Great Grandchildren, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins, Special cousin and other caregiver Hylestine Jones.
Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00pm Monday, November 14, 2022 at Miracle Cathedral, 2271 E. 5th Ave.
Interment at Evergreen Burial Park.
