Hosia H. Whaley, Born to Grady Hardy Whaley and Mary Lou Johnson on January 22, 1958 in Monroe, Georgia. At age 64, he went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2022 surrounded by family and friends in Columbus, Ohio.

Hosia was a God fearing, prayerful, intelligent, loyal, outgoing man who was not afraid to tell you what was on his mind. Even if you didn’t like it, you had to respect it because it came from his heart. He said what he meant and meant what he said. His word was his bond and he stood by it because he said without it, there is nothing else. He displayed great confidence in all that he did and sat out to do. He was a man of many qualities and anyone he came in contact with gravitated to him. He would offer words of advice and any type of help. Most came for laughter and a fun story. Some friends have known him for 50 years or more.

Hosia was a Jack of all trades, master of none. He touched a little bit of everything in life. He attended High School here in Columbus, Ohio. He was brought up in the Church by his mother where he sang in the choir and played drums. Hosia served in the US Marine Corps “Semper Fi”. He also studied Martial Arts. With him loving to work with his hands, he worked as a Managerial Contractor for the Marriott Hotel Chain, YMCA and Doctor’s North Hospital, just to name a few. That led him to become an entrepreneur and self employed contractor with young men employed under him. He took night classes to earn his GED and encouraged them to do the same. He retired in his late fifties to enjoy life.

Hosia being a gentle southern soul, loved his family and friends. He enjoyed the great outdoors, fishing, hunting, traveling, cooking and taking his boat out which would give him the option to throw a fish fry or a cookout because if the words “Hosia is cooking”, everyone is coming. You often heard people arguing because the greens, potato salad, yams or ribs were all gone.

Hosia being a great man and doing life his way, loved his children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, among the most, his wife. You often heard him say “I don’t know what I would do without her”. He brought out all family and friends when he decided to, unite their love. Shortly thereafter, he became Deacon Hosia Whaley of the Just Praise Him Church always offering in his Prayer to “Let it Grow, Let it Grow”. Hosia was always learning something new and teaching was second nature. He did not mind giving information while watching his nature or fishing shows, but loved to tell you something about his Ohio State Buckeyes. He wanted everyone to strive to be their best and to go after more. He set the bar high for his son when he told him to be a better man and father than he was. Because he believed that if you achieved a goal, go after more once you have achieved it and always be the best version of yourself. The love that Hosia shared with friends and family will be remembered in our hearts forever and always. He will never be missed because we will always carry him in our hearts.

Deacon Whaley was preceded in death by his parents; Grady Hardy Whaley and Mary Lou Pressley, brothers; Ed M. Boyce, Henry L. Boyce and Clifford J. Boyce, sister; Mary Ann Boyce.

Left to cherish his memory, son; Que’Vontae Price, daughters; Deanna Poindexter and Cailyn Pittman, grandchildren; Isabella Poindexter, Qaysen Price, Su’Rai Price, brothers; John (Evelyn) Boyce, Dayle (Florence) Boyce, sisters; Rose Marie Whaley, Yvonne Whaley, Shawna Harper, Laverne (Leon) Pryor, sister in laws; Bertha Boyce, Angela Price and Latanya Warren along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Condolence from Asberry Johnson on June 30th, 2022 1:06 pm

Words can’t explain what an amazing person Hosia was and what he meant to me. Cousin’s we were but he was a Father, brother, uncle, friend and everything a young kid growing up could have asked for or needed in their life. He will forever live on because of what he taught me unconditional love.

Condolence from Latasha Whaley on July 1st, 2022 3:56 pm

As a child it was always a big occasion when you were coming into town before you finally moved back to Ohio. I thought it was so cool to have an Uncle who favored the celebrity Ice-T. Many memories of my cousins and I watching you fix something on Mother’s home or taking us out of town on fishing trips. Knowing you are no longer suffering brings some comfort, may you rest in peace. ️
