BriscoeIrma

Irma Jeanne (Brown) Briscoe departed this life peacefully on Friday May 4, 2018.

Irma was born in Columbus, Ohio on November 5, 1936 to Nathaniel and Hallie (Marsh) Brown. She attended Pilgrim Elementary and Champion Middle School. In 1950 her father, a brick mason by trade, built the family a home and moved them to Urbancrest, Ohio. Irma was a 1954 graduate of Grove City High School and attended The Ohio State University with the intention of becoming an elementary school teacher.

The workforce called and she became employed with the State of Ohio where she worked for 35 years, retiring in July of 1992 from Rehabilitation Services Commission/Bureau of Disability Determination. Enjoying retirement but wanting to remain active, Irma would go on to work numerous part-time positions within the Columbus community (Curio Cabinet, Columbus Public Schools, Carfagna’s, Big Bear and Giant Eagle) for nearly 25 years. During this time she also enjoyed collecting Miss Martha Originals and All God’s Children figurines. Making a connection with other local collectors, she joined their collector’s club and for many years looked forward to attending the annual AGC Family Reunion held in Gadsden, Alabama.

Originally joining Triedstone Baptist Church in April of 1977, Sister Briscoe was a former member of the Nurses Corps (where she served for a time as nurse to “Rev. Ross”), the Deaconess Board and the (Radio) Broadcast Boosters. She would later become a member of the Seasoned Citizens.

Having a gregarious spirit by nature, Sister Briscoe loved to give encouragement to others whenever the opportunity presented itself. She enjoyed traveling the United States and taking cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, the Mediterranean and was planning for Australia in October 2018.

Sister Briscoe was preceded in death by her, father, Nathaniel Brown; mother, Hallie (Marsh) Brown; brother, Nathaniel A. Brown; and former husband, Thomas L. Briscoe.

Loved ones left to cherish her memory, daughter, Teresa L. (“Terri”) Briscoe; sister, Natalie A. Brown; as well as extended family, numerous friends, co-workers and individuals who will carry their “Irma experience” close in their heart. Although Sister Briscoe did not have grandchildren, she was proud to be considered a god-grandmother to Sarah Crowder, Jasmine Ross, Jalah Ross, and Justice Ross.

Visitation 6:00pm and Funeral 7:00pm Tuesday May 15, 2018 at Triedstone Baptist Church, 858 E. 3rd Ave

Interment 10:00am Wednesday at Eastlawn Cemetery.

To the family of Irma, you have my deepest sympathy in your loss. How is it that the Methuselah tree lives for 4,849 years and humans only live 70 or 80 years? (Psalm 90:10) God’s purpose is for humans to live forever but because Adam passed sin to us we die. (Genesis 1:28; Romans 5:12) Soon his promise of the resurrection will come true and his purpose for humans to live forever!

Terri, I am so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I will always remember with fondness our many trips to the All God’s Children Reunions in Gadsden, and our Club meetings and many outings with Irma and you. I know you will have a big void in your life, and I know you will grieve. I also know that you have so many great memories that will help you along the way. Your faith in God will keep you in his comfort and care. Lean on Him each and every moment of each and every day. He will never leave you nor forsake you. He is the only one who can make that claim. I will keep you in my prayers. With Love.
