Irvin Paul Hill, age 77, life-long resident of Columbus, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2019, at Grant Medical Center.

Irvin was born on July 25, 1942 to the late Prentiss Floyd and Dorothy L. Hill, and was the eldest of two children. Irvin attended West High School and was a member of their first wrestling team. He graduated from West in 1960. After graduation, he attended The Ohio State University. In 1966, he married Raymona Porter, and to this union they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Michelle and Stephanie Hill. On June 28, 1974, he married Carolyn Tanner.

In 1964, Irvin began working for the United States Postal Service in Inquiry and Processing. He also worked a seasonal position as a cashier at Scioto Downs Racetracks. After retiring from USPS, he worked as a driver for Groveport Madison Schools for 10 years.

Irvin was renowned for his love of sports. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, football, pool, and tennis. Although Irvin loved The Ohio State Buckeyes, he was a die-hard Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Cavaliers fan. Irvin and his brother, Ron, traveled to Cleveland for over 15 years to see his favorite teams play. During that time, he also had the opportunity to see his favorite player, LeBron James. He was also an avid bowler in multiple leagues and a skilled table tennis player.

Affectionately known as Coach Hill, his 40-year tenure with the Eastland Vikings Athletic Association has extended over three generations and continues to live on today. Coach Hill was an educator at heart and enjoyed a healthy debate. Irvin always had time to answer a question or solve a problem. His family (including his grandchildren) would often seek his advice. He always imparted words of wisdom to guide them along in life. Irvin will be missed by all of those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
