Our young queen, JaKayla Lanette Cook, was born in Columbus, Ohio on May 10, 1997 to loving parents, Carmenita Cook and DeJuan Barbour. She was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Visitation 8:30 AM and Funeral Service 9:30 AM Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the age of 24.
Jakayla was educated in Columbus Public Schools where she expressed her creativity. She received her high school diploma at Marion Franklin High School on May 30, 2015. Jakayla was very talented artistically and she could draw and paint beautifully. Her passion, however, was the beauty industry. She was a student at Aveda Institute where she was pursuing her esthetician license. Jakayla was also an entrepreneur with her own eyelash and beauty line by the name of Flutter by Kay.
Jakayla was a loving mother, daughter, sister, niece, auntie, cousin, granddaughter, and friend. Her personality was amazing and her smile would light up any room, She loved cooking, shopping, hair and makeup, she had style like no other. Her number one priority was her two sons who she loved and adored dearly. She will leave us with many great memories filled with smiles, love, and laughter.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Terrance Barbour; grandfather, Robert Rucks; aunts, Alka Cook, Dorothy Williams, and Faith Cook-Rutland; uncles, Lionel Barbour, Quiami Cook, Charles Williams, Artie Williams, Bernard Agnew; and cousin, Kevaun Barbour.
Jakayla leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Tariq Penn Jr. and Quran Roberts; mother, Carmenita Cook; father, DeJuan (Nichole) Barbour Sr.; grandmothers, Sandra Cook and Norma Kwarteng; sisters, Diamond Brown, Marquetta (Lorenzo) Broomfield, Leslie Cook, and Brittney Beard; brothers, DeJuan Reese, DeJuan Barbour Jr., La’Quae Cook, La’Queven Cook, and Demario Barbour; aunts, Synetha Riley, Orlanda Russell, and Yolanda Miles; uncles, La’Quan Cook, Robert Barbour Sr., and Bernard Barbour Sr.; special cousin, DeShawnte Barbour; special friend, Quan Roberts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation 8:30 AM and Funeral Service 9:30 AM Saturday, March 26, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
