moorehead

Elder James Moorehead, “Mitch” Pawp”, Bro Moorehead and for me Dad was born on May 19, 1934 in Columbus, Ohio.

James Moorehead was a graduate of Central High School and served in the United States Navy.  He was employed with DCSC for many years as well as the Columbus Public School System, a job he really loved.

Brother James Moorehead was a faithful member of Gospel Lighthouse Church and attended regularly until his health began to fail.  He was licensed as a minister under the leadership of Dr. Jerry D. Fryar, Senior Pastor and was later ordained as an Elder after graduating from the Gospel Lighthouse School of Ministry.

Elder Moorehead loved Gospel Lighthouse Church and served in various capacities which included, the ministerial staff, a member of the Board of Trustees, briefly served as a Children’s Church instructor and a Security Assistant with the Gospel Lighthouse School of Ministry for several years.  He was always willing to serve wherever needed.  He will be missed.

He was preceded in death by his Wife, Velora Moorehead and Parents, Sam and Helen Greenway.

Left to cherish his memories are daughter, Veedra Moorehead; sons, James Moorehead Jr., Reginold Moorehead (Priscilla); Brothers, Robert Moorehed, Joe (Ann) Moorehead, John (Ollie) Greenway; Granddaughters, Diamond Cox, Moriah Moorehead and Satin Anderson; Great-grandchildren, Ryan, Semaj, Maj’Justee, Diy’Nastee and Mikari’ as well as a host of other Nieces, Nephews, other Relatives and Friends.

My Dad was loved by everyone. He was the best father and loving husband, but at the end he was my best friend.

He will be missed.

Condolence Messages

  1. Jenny Greenway-Gary & Family

    Veedra and the Moorehead-Greenway Families,

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and the entire family as you grieve the departure of our loved one, James (Mitch) Moorehead Jr. As we reminiscence about Mitch, it brings to mind his quiet nature, how he loved the Lord, and was pleasant and respectful to everyone. The Scripture reads, “Absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8). As Christians, our belief is that Mitch’s departure is not the end of the story but a new beginning to eternal life. He is now sleeping and is at God’s peace, the one that is good, merciful, and forever. Continue to trust Him and take comfort in His promises, for He is true to His word, that one day He will descend from Heaven and unite us once again.

    With deepest sympathies,
Jenny, John Jr., Deidra & Ron, James & Marsha, Ike & Cheryl
