James H. Owens, Jr. was born on February 23, 1958 to Bernice S. and James H. Owens Sr. in Columbus, Ohio.
James was a graduate of Linden McKinley High School. From there he went to OSU Hospital to work and retired at the age of 55.

James was a lover of Black African Art. His house and yard are full of them. He created them all. He also designed and made most of his own clothes. He redid his house. He also did the neighbors lawns in the summer and their sidewalks in the winter. They all loved him. He was a jack of all trades.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Bernice S. and James H. Owens Sr.
James is survived by his sisters, Rosetta L. Jamar and Paulette Owens, both of Columbus; brother, Rev. Jeffrey (Camla) H. Owens, Sr., of Montgomery, Alabama; nephews, William T. Jamar Jr. of Columbus; Jeffrey H. Owens Jr.; great nephew, Karter J. Richardson; nieces, Alyssa C. and Skyler A. Owens of Montgomery, Alabama; special friends, Tracy Miller of Columbus, Don (Regina) Johnson of North Carolina, and Kenny Gwynn of Tennessee; special children, Zachariah (Courtney) Weatherington and Zackia (Ron) Vanover; and cousins, and friends.

James will be forever missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
