James William Gwen born April 30th 1953 in Columbus, Ohio was called home May 10th. He graduated from East High School in 1971. He studied at Computer Training Academy. He spent 27 years in California before returning to Columbus in 2008. He worked in construction and retail before retiring from Lowe’s Home Improvement in 2020. In his retirement years he did lawn care. James loved rooting for the San Francisco 49ers and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He enjoyed fishing with his wife.

He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Louise Hickman, brother Merrill Lewis Hickman, grandparents
William and Thelma Wilson.
James leaves to cherish his memory his wife Nia Rivers-Gwen, father James B Gwen, sister Thelma Berger, brother Michael (Brenda) Hickman, nieces Lois

(Mark) Burton and Antoinette Robinson, nephew Samuel Robinson, great-nieces Jazmine and Breyana Burton, great-nephew Malik Burton, great-great nephew Elias James Burton. Cousins Don (Sandra) Corbett and Ron (Deirdra) Corbett. A host of family and friends.

Visitation 3:00 PM and Funeral Service 4:00 PM Friday, May 19, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Mr James was a great man, i worked with him at Lowes, it was him who talked to me and encouraged me when i found out i was becoming a father. We had many talks on my ride home from work and would always go back and forth about Steelers and 49ers. Mr.James you will be missed and thank you for being an example for me.
