Jamir Tayshun Hess, affectionately known as “Jay” by family and friends, was born on June 22, 2004 in Cherry Point, North Carolina at Halyburton Naval Hospital. Jay was born to Marine Corps parents Vincent Hess Jr. and Rogerlynn Hess. Jay was the youngest of the two boys.

Jay graduated from Madison Comprehensive High School in 2022. Jay had many dreams. He wanted to be an CEO of his company, he wanted to be a world known chef, he wanted to be an historian and a car collector. Jay loved animals and the outdoors.

Jay loved sports. His favorite NFL team was the Carolina Panthers and his favorite player was Cam Newton. He could give you random facts about any subject that he is talking about.

Jay was a character. Jay didn’t just come to the party, he was the party. Jay wanted everyone to be happy. To know him was to love him and to when you got to know him, he gave you a nickname and he was either saying you smell like cheese or you ugly dude, but that’s how he showed you love.

Jay had so much energy he was always looking for the next thing to do. He had aspirations of being an actor, rapper and a model. His current project was becoming a welder. In his life his favorite job was working at Bentley’s Tree Service as a “lumberjack.”

Jay left this earthly world on March 29, 2023. He was preceded in death by grandfather; Vincent Hess Sr., grandmothers; Mary Elders, and Tammy Gamble, great grandmothers; Quillie Jones and Elsie Davis, great grandfather; Roger Corry Jr., cousins; Blake Hess and Kesi Hess.

Left to cherish his memories are parents; Vincent and Rogerlynn Hess, brother; Tariq Hess, grandparents; Evon Johnson and Constance (James) Johnson, great grandmother; Willa Mingle, great grandfather; Robert Hess, aunts; Daisha Lyell and Marquita Johnson, uncles; Tyrice Taylor, Steve (Jayna) King, Chad (Domino) King, Bobby Gordan, Johnnie B. (Tineka) Gibbs and special cousin; Carole Davis and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

In the words of Jay “let’s go eat and play some spades.”
“Mom you don’t have to worry about me any more, I am ok.”

I met Jamir as a young boy in Mansfield , He and my son Gage attending a summer thing together at Catalyst! They became quick friends but after that summer camp thing they lost connection! We often talk about Jamir and his energy, stories & jokes! He always made me laugh and for the longest time he made me believe his name was Steve!

Hess family,
Praying and thinking of you a lot. This truly broke my heart. I talk about Jamir all the time. He is truly one of my greatest memories. I had him in first grade, my very first year of teaching a whole classroom. He gave me so much trouble at first, but we made so much progress that year, and I loved him dearly. He always was able to make me laugh or put a smile on my face. Heaven gained a great one for sure.
