Jessie Hampston

HampstonJessie2

Jessie Hampston was born on October 1, 1934 in Sardis, Mississippi. He was called Home to Glory on November 3, 2017 peacefully at the Kobacker House.

Jessie met his high school sweetheart, Annie Lee Anderson while attending Walton Chapel School. They married in 1955, and one year later their eldest son, Willie James was born.

Jessie moved the family to Columbus, Ohio in 1959 where they became members of Metropolitan Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Robert A. Myers. They were long-time members of Aenon Missionary Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon and served as Head Trustee.  At the time of his death, he had been a faithful member of Greater Vision Missionary Baptist Church (Dr. Marvin L. Miller, Sr.).

Jessie was devoted to his family. He was involved in all of their lives where he always provided love and support—they are his legacy.  Jessie loved watching TV, especially westerns and classic comedies like Sanford and Son, Good Times, and the Jeffersons.  A major highlight of his life was a cruise to the Bahamas in 2011.  Jessie was a talented and skillful bricklayer.  His work is evident in dozens of construction projects all over Columbus, and surrounding communities that include hospitals, restaurants and office buildings.

We will miss Deacon Hampston, but we know that Heaven rejoiced upon his entrance where he joined his wife of 50 years, Annie Lee, son James and a host of relatives and friends who all predeceased him.

Jessie now leaves to cherish his memory, seven children: Mary Paraham, Coldwater, Mississippi, Shirley Ann McCall of Columbus, Ohio, Linda Jean (Jeffrey) Green, Pyeongtaek, Republic of South Korea, Ronnie Earl, Wanda Kaye Thomas, Carolyn Lee, Deborah Denise (Michael) Swayne all of Columbus, Ohio; twelve grandchildren: Marcus Antoine (Andrea) Hampston, Andre “Shawn” Oliver, Shunlonda Patrice McCall, Richard Hampston, Ronnie Earl  (Brittany) Hampston, Jr., Saginaw, Michigan, Sharon Kelly, Danielle Nicole Thomas, Sheretta Virginia Paraham, Nathaniel Keith James Green, Joshua Wayne Green, Jer’montane Fletcher and Diamond Faith Green; sixteen great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; three sisters, Mary Lou Morgan, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lucille Hamilton of Sardis, Mississippi, and Eliza Ann (Willie) Thomas, Muncie, Indiana; two brothers, Eddie Danner, Kansas City, Missouri and Chester (Claire) Hamilton, Chicago, Illinois; nine sisters in law and six brothers in law:  Rosemary Gassion, Gary, Indiana, Lettie Louise Cox, Milwaukee, Geraldine (Robert L.) Hoofe and Mary Lena Dean, Memphis, Tennessee, Charlie Roy Davis, Chicago, Illinois; Caruthers (Ellen) Anderson and Bernice Anderson, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Booker T. (Frances) Anderson, Memphis, Tennessee, Lear Anderson, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Earnest Anderson, Patricia Ann (Jesse) Ware and Barbara Ann Presley, Memphis, Tennessee, and a great host of cousins, church family and devoted friends.
