Joan M. Martin (Winchester) was born on March 18, 1948 in Pittsburgh, PA to Isabella and Horace Winchester Jr. Joan professed to Christ at an early age while attending Sixth Mount Zion in Pittsburgh. She passed away unexpectedly on June 16, 2019 at the age of 71.

Joan graduated from George Westinghouse High School in 1966. Shortly after high school Joan left Pittsburgh and moved to Columbus, Ohio to start her life.

She was employed at AT&T where she worked for 30 years until her retirement. Upon retirement, she worked with adults with disabilities and as a substitute teacher’s assistant with Columbus Public Schools until she permanently retired at the age of 62.

Joan was very artistic and creative and loved to sew (evident in her multiple sewing machines and endless collection of sewing books). She also had a love for antiques in which she collected many throughout her life. Her joy was going to many different thrift stores throughout Columbus, OH to find her next antique to collect.

She is preceded in death by her parents: Isabella and Horace Winchester Jr.; goddaughter/cousin, Keila Ann-Marie Taylor; and her former spouse, James Martin.

Joan leaves to cherish her memory, daughters: Ariel and Nicole Martin; grandchildren: Ajeiana Martin, Avante Martin, DaMonje Humphrey, and Deshon Tolliver; great-granddaughter: A’Ryiah Jones; sisters: Darice Winchester and Wendylynn (Jerome) Porter; aunt: Dollie Ann McCreary; brother-in-law Tony (Flora) Martin; special friends: Jennifer St. Clair, Rogenia Hartgrove, and Brenda Levatte; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Visitation 2:00pm and Funeral Service 3:00pm Saturday, June 29, 2019 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Your momma worked for me in Worthington at AT&T in the 1990s. She was a wonderful person and a great employee. I just found out about her passing and was shocked to hear. I obtained her phone number in 2018 and called her and had a great talk with her. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to your and yours.
