Brother John Robert Hairston Jr., 87 of Columbus, Ohio entered into eternal rest on Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Brother John, affectionately known as “Dad”, “Gramps”, “Grandpa” and “Big Brother” was born August 14, 1935 in Weirton, W.VA. to the late John Robert Hairston Sr., and Clara Esther Clark-Hairston. He was raised and educated in Steubenville, Ohio. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and proudly served from November 1954 to November 1958. He was stationed in Hawaii. After his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he returned to Steubenville, Ohio and worked as a salesman for a period of time. He then took off to the “Big City” and called Brooklyn, New York home until 2012.

John loved attending church and was a faithful servant of God. He loved studying the bible and even took a trip to Jerusalem. Some of his favorite pastimes were photography, reading the bible, attending Broadway shows, and traveling. Everyone knew whenever he came around to get ready to have multiple pictures taken. He traveled with his camera and tripod and whether you liked it or not, it was going to happen. While living in Brooklyn, N.Y., John worked as a supervisor for the Postal Service. He retired on October 2, 1992. After that, he traveled extensively and enjoyed the “Big City.” In 2012, he came to live with his daughter, Tiffani, and she cared for him until his death.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Hairston, 1 brother, Richard Hairston, 2 sisters, Mary Richburg and Jeanette Wilson, 1 niece, Chana Yetts, and 2 nephews, Montel Beasley and Dominique Beasley.

My heart goes out to you for the loss of your father John ❤️I hope your happy memories will help you through this difficult time. John was a great inspiration in my life and someone who I considered the best father-in-law a son in law could possibly have. John always had a spirit of adventure, and always compassionate enough to listen to your problems. John and I had a lot of beautiful experiences and memories that I will cherish for a lifetime. He gave me some good advice and taught me things that made me become a better man, a better father, and a better friend! He gave me an opportunity to enjoy being a son to another man and building a life of memories that will always be within our family. John’s spirit might’ve moved on to the next phase of life, but his memory will live forever within our spirits❤️
