Joseph Edward Burns Sr., 63, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 13, 2022.

Joseph was born on July 4, 1958, to John and Lela Burns in Chicago, IL. He graduated from Tinley Park High School in 1978, he went on to study Engineering at DeVry Technical Institute. He also went to Culinary Arts School for his passion of cooking. He specialized in making homemade bread and deep-dish pizzas for family and friends.

After Graduating with a degree in Electronic Engineering, he started out in Sunnyvale, California where he began his career at Symbol Technologies in Silicon Valley’s early years. He played a leading role in the creation of a handheld laser bar code scanning device that could store data scanned to take inventory counts remotely. Every time he went out to the store, he made it his mission to tell everyone that he could that he invented the scanner that they were using. He also was part of Varin Electronics’ a startup electronics’ company that started from a garage. Even though he achieved early successes in his career, his greatest accomplishment was when he started working for the Federal Government. Even though his work there was classified he could still tell you that Aliens were real.

Joseph was a true fan of Sci-fi, he would watch Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dr. Who. He was a true Outdoors man, he enjoyed hiking trips in the California Mountains, Skiing in Reno, traveling, and going on long walks. Most of all he loved telling stories of his experiences and giving advice to his family.

Joseph leaves to cherish his loving memories three sons, Anthony, Joseph, and Juwan; two daughters, Latasha and Janelle; three sisters, Johnella, June, and Joyce; three brothers, Kenneth, John, and Ronald; five grandchildren; and three sisters-in-laws, Yvonne, Deanna, and Lisa.

On July 3rd, 2019, Joseph married Rasheedat Idowu and from that union they have three stepchildren, Ayomide Okojie, Ayomidotun Olajide, and AyomideJi Olajide.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and one sister. There is also a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins who will truly miss him.
