JOSEPH LEE COLLINS (68) WAS BORN IN YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO ON JULY 7, 1952 AND DEPARTED THIS EARTHLY REALM OF LIFE ON OCTOBER 22, 2020. JOSEPH IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HIS PARENTS FLECTHER AND IDA COLLINS, SISTER MARILYN COLLINS, AND BROTHER FLECTHER COLLINS JR.
JOSEPH, HAD ENLISTED INTO THE ARMY IN 1972 WHILE, STATIONED IN FORT CAMPBELL, KENTUCKY. JOSEPH HAD GAINED OUTSTANDING SERVICE FROM OCTOBER 1972 TO MAY 1975. DURING HIS TOUR OF DUTY, JOSEPH SERVED AS HOWITZER CANNONEER ASSISTANT GUNNER. SPECIALIST COLLINS’ WAS AWARDED A CHIEF OF SECTION POSITION AND THE ACTING SERGEANT RANK AT THE TIME WHEN THE UNIT NEEDED A NONCOMISSIONED OFFICER. ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS, SPECIALIST COLLINS’ WAS SENT BY BATTERY ON UNIT OF CHOICE RECRUITING MISSIONS BECAUSE, OF HIS DEMOSTRATED PROFESSIONALISM.
SPECIALIST COLLINS’ ABILITY IN ALL ASPECTS OF HIS DUTY POSITION REFLECTS GREAT CREDIT UPON HIMSELF THE UNIT AND THE UNITED STATES ARMY. AFTER, JOSEPH HAD RECEIVED HIS HONORABLE DISCHARGE FROM THE ARMY, HE HAD MIGRATED TO COLUMBUS, OHIO TO FIND WORK. JOSEPH GOT HIRED ON AT THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY, IN APRIL OF 1988 AS A CUSTODIAL WORKER. ALSO, JOSEPH HAD WORKED PART-TIME AT ENCOVA FORMALLY KNOWN AS MOTORIST INSURANCE COMPANY FOR ABOUT (16) YEARS.
WHILE, JOSEPH WAS EMPLOYED AT OSU HE LATER, MET THE LOVE OF HIS LIFE SHEILA ERVIN IN 1996. THEY BEGAN DATING AND SOON AFTER, BECAME MARRIED IN JULY OF 1997. JOSEPH, HAD ACCEPTED SHEILA’S ONLY SON FROM A PREVIOUS MARRIGAE WHO WAS ONE YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. AND JOSEPH QUICKLY BLOSSOMED INTO THE FATHER ROLE NEVER LOOKING BACK.
JOSEPH, HAD RETIRED FROM THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY IN AUGUST OF 2019. JOSEPH, CONTINUED TO WORK HIS SECOND JOB UNTIL HIS UNTIMELY DEATH!
JOSEPH, HAD A LOVE FOR LIFE AND PUTTING GOD FIRST, HE WOULD OFTEN TO SAY TO THOSE IN DISTRESS “JUST GIVE IT TO GOD HE WILL MAKE IT ALRIGHT”
JOSEPH, FULFILLED HIS DREAM, HIS PASSION FOR WORK AND FAMILY HAVING ACQUIRED PERFECT ATTENDANCE DURING HIS HIGHSCHOOL DAYS, TO FOLLOWING SUIT WITH PERFECT ATTENDANCE ON HIS JOBS.
ALL THE QUALITIES WHICH MADE HIM THE PERSON HE WAS SUCH A MILD MANNERED AND SLOW TO ANGER INDIVIDUAL. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS HIM AND MAY HEAVEN CONTINUE TO SMILE UPON HIS SOUL.
JOSEPH, LEAVES TO REJOICE, IN HIS ETERNAL PEACE: A LOVING WIFE OF (23) YEARS SHEILA MICHELLE COLLINS, SON CHRISTIAN LAMAR DAVIS. BROTHER-IN- LAW JAMES MICHAEL ERVIN. BROTHER SAMUEL L. COLLINS, AND SISTER ODAILIAR (WILLIE) HAWKINS BOTH OF YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO, BROTHER ALBERT COLLINS WHO RESIDES IN CHATTNOOGA, TENNESSE (1) AUNT LUCILLE (ROBERT) WILLIAMS ALSO, OF CHATTNOOGA, TENNESSE. He was so great and kind. i did not know him personally but I get to say hello everyday.
I loved seeing him working at our building.
He will be truly missed
I saw Joseph every day for years in Newman Wolfrom Lab at OSU. Seeing him each day was a pleasure and a privilege. I will always remember and appreciate Joseph for his warmth and his positive attitude. My condolences to all of Joseph’s friends and family.
Joe took care of my building, Newman and Wolfrom lab, where as a Professor of Chemistry my office continues to reside – for more than 20 years now. I cannot express to Joe’s family in words how saddened I am of his passing. I have often thought of how much I missed him after his recent retirement and how the building and the atmosphere of the building is not the same without him. Joe used to come by and chat for a bit, about general things, about the little things. I missed him then, and certainly miss him now. My sincerest thoughts for his family.
Joe was a very kind and hard-working guy. We often talked in the morning when I arrived at work. He always had a great outlook on life, even though life was sometimes hard for him. We all loved working with him, and we will miss him very much.
My prayers are with you and your family, may God keep you safe. Mr Joe was a sweetheart and he will be missed. I use to being him peanut butter crackers because they took out the machine he would smile and say thanks sis. There are no words to express the feeling that I have but I’ll always remember his smile. May he rest in peace.
The man never walked into the room without a kind word. He did a lot of hard work during his career to keep the university running. He was a survivor. I’m sorry he didn’t get to enjoy more of a well deserved retirement. My condolences to his family. We won’t forget him at OSU.
I was very sad to hear about Joseph. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family. Joseph made a lasting impression. He always went out of his way with a smile and a hello and anything I needed – even before I asked for it. We need more people like him. My dad held a similar position so seeing Joseph always reminded me of my dad. Know that Joseph made a difference in many lives.
We were happy for Joe when he got to retire but we missed him. It was always a pleasure to talk with Joe. He always brightened the day with a smile and words of encouragement. My condolences to family and friends.
Mr. Joe came to campus Mcdonalds every morning to get his oatmeal and his hot chocolate everyday we will miss you Mr.Joe at campus Mcdonalds.
I was so shocked when I got this news. Joe and I would often talk when I would run across him in the hallways of our Chemistry buildings. He was such a nice person and I swear the hardest working person I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t think I ever saw him sitting. I’ve missed our interactions since he retired. He will be missed.
I am deeply saddened by this news. I loved seeing Joe at the Chemistry building. He was always so happy, kind, and hard-working. Such a bright spot in my day when I got to see Joe. He always held doors open. Thinking of his family and friends at this time. I know he will be greatly missed.
It was shocked to hear of the passing of Mr. Joseph Collins. I knew Joe for many years as he kept the OSU Chemistry Department (Evans Laboratory in my case) clean and good-to-go! He contributed to my days in a quiet and positive manner. I will miss Joe and remember him as an example for how I should treat others. My sympathy to his family.

I’m deeply saddened by our beloved Mr.Joe he was a raye of light and sunshine..He will truly be missed and never forgotten..He’s kind words, smile and positive energy brought joy and kindness to our work environment..He always came to work with kind words and a boost of energy and a very hard worker..GOD HAS TRULY CALLED A ANGEL HOME THAT WILL FOREVER BE IN OUR HEARTS AND MINDS…I WILL MISS HIM..REST EASY MR.JOE AND GOD BLESS YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY..MY EMPATHY GOES OUT TO FAMILY AND CONDOLENCES AND MAY GOD SEE US ALL THROUGH THE TRYING TIME

I know Joe for a short time we both work for Atalian Global Services. Joe always was a hard worker came in to work everyday
and never miss fully dedicated to the task at hand. Joe would come to work by bus or was provided service from
Project Mainstream. Joe and I would have conversation about work and about religion. Joe loved his family very much and will be dearly miss.
