Joyce Featherstone Garner passed away peacefully at her residence on March 13, 2020. She was born on January 17, 1938 in Roxboro, North Carolina to Ivey Featherstone and Gladys Featherstone Barnette. She was the fourth of five siblings. Joyce was a graduate of Person County High School and a Licensed Practical Nurse. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of First Baptist Church, Roxboro, North Carolina.
Joyce worked in the healthcare field for over 30 years and retired from Mount Carmel Health System. She later returned to work as a contract nurse for American Nursing Care.
Joyce joined Liberty Hill Baptist Church under the late Pastor R.B. McCrary. As a faithful member of many years, Joyce was a member of the Deaconess Board, an usher, and Director of the Male Chorus. She was a current member of Springhill Baptist Church under Pastor T.L. Hicklin.
Joyce is predeceased by parents, Ivey Featherstone and Gladys Featherstone Barnette; sister, Shirley Shaw; and brothers, Boyd Featherstone and Ivey Featherstone.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 47 years, James D. Garner, Sr; daughter, Joy Garner; son, James D. Garner, Jr; grandchildren, Richard Hough and Delontay Garner; sister, Enid Jay; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Saturday, March 21, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
