Joyce Lynn Pettis was born on April 30, 1949 to Eugene (Hunter) Pettis and Paul Pettis Sr. in Columbus, Ohio. At the age of 73, she transitioned to be with the Lord on August 7, 2022.

Joyce attended school in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from Glenville High School. She was a member of Columbus Bible Way Church for many years and gave her life to the Lord under the leadership of Dr. William Talley III.

She worked as an accountant for the State Department of Health for many years and later went on to obtain her college degree from CTI (Columbus State Community College) but stepped away to attend to the needs of her son, Kameron. It was through her providing support for her child that had been diagnosed as a Type I Diabetic that her passion for caregiving and supportive services developed.

Joyce was employed as a Community Support Specialist and Home Manager with Franklin County Board of DD, ViaQuest and Ohio Mentor until her health no longer permitted her to do so.

She was a very social person and loved to take care of those close to her and even her friends. Her home was open to anyone that needed a meal or a safe space to overcome some of life’s challenges. She would redecorate her house at the drop of a hat and would paint the whole house whenever she felt the desire to do so. She even paved her own driveway. Joyce was a dynamic seamstress and tax preparer.  The children in the neighborhood could always depend on two things being at her house, a home cooked meal during the holidays when they returned from college and her candy dishes being full of peppermints and Werthers. Joyce’s habit for peppermint candy earned her the nickname “Peppermint Pettis” at McNaughten Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation, her residence until the time of her passing.

Joyce is preceded in death by son, Kameron Cunningham, maternal grandparents Ola May (Evans) Hunter & Will Hunter paternal grandparents, Emma & John Pettis, parents Eugene (Hunter) Pettis & Paul Pettis Sr., brothers Donald, Fred, Robert, Willis, Michael, and Paul Pettis Jr.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memories her devoted daughter Kelli (Vernon) Bolton, grandchildren Thess Bolton, Azia Bolton and Kameron Bolton (who she nicknamed Suga Bear). Two great-granddaughters, Laila Buffington-Smith, and Nia Buffington-Smith; Sisters; Dorothy (Pettis) Howard and Jackie Crowley. Nieces; Shawna (Cleveland, Oh), Stacy, Orlaina (Sunny), Ramona, Tanya, Daphne, and Jessica all of Columbus, Ohio.

Nephews, Donald, Sean, Orry, Julius, and James and Jeremiah Allen. Many great- nieces and nephews, cousins, godchildren, and friends. Special Cousin: Lorraine Neal (Detroit, MI). The Kennedy Square Neighborhood The Davidson Family Special Friends: Gail Heard-Frazier, Mary Topp, Emma Clark Cheryl Jackson, and Alice Hollingsworth. Cynthia Latham Sowards and Adrienne Dawson.
