June Lowana Carey was born April 23, 1940 in Holden, West Virginia to Wilber, Sr., and Bertha Carey. June graduated from Aracoma High School in Logan, West Virginia and activities included, majorette, attendant to the Queen’s Court and soloist in the school choir. She furthered her education by attending Bluefield, State College and Mansfield Ohio Business College. June married Lovell Parker, Sr., October 7, 1963.

June’s heritage in singing began at an early age, with her father mentoring June, as well as her brothers and sisters, singing at churches, conventions, talent shows and T.V. appearances. June achieved success in the music industry, including musical recordings with Delight Records: “We Ain’t As Tight As We Used to Be” and “I Just Don’t Know How To Thank You.” She also birthed the group, “The Crowd Pleasers,” which, included her brothers El, Al, Hank and cousin, Earl (“Bacon”) and others, traveling extensively throughout the states; and, after many years of service, were honored to be inducted into Columbus, Ohio Music Hall of Fame. June retired as a Medical Assistant and Home Health Provider with Olsten Health Services. She also received special recognition from the State of Ohio as a foster grandparent for over 10 years.

The Carey family had strong roots in their faith in God and were members of Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Holden for many years. After moving to Columbus and returning to her “deep” roots in God, June Parker later became a member of Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church for 15+ years, where she served on the Hospitality Committee, Sanctuary Choir and the DJW Heritage Choir, as well as was a member of Gospel Music Workshop of America Choir.

After fighting the good fight of faith, June passed this life on Monday, September 14, 2020.
