RangeKathryn e1586289977512

Kathryn Nadina Lockhart Range was born October 15, 1930 in Alcoa Tennessee to Anna Ruth Henderson and William Swofford and went home to Glory on April 6, 2020 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, in Columbus, Ohio.

Kathryn attended Columbus East High School and received her Associate’s Degree from Columbus Technical Institute, now Columbus State Community College, at age 50.

Kathryn was a member of Second Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and the Senior Ministry.

Kathryn also served as a Deaconess, member of the Pastor’s Aide Society, Christian Women’s Fellowship and other auxiliaries at Woodland Christian Church and New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, and Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis, IN. She was loved and respected by all as a faithful Christian and a cheerful giver. Mom had a giving spirit and gave generously to her church, family, neighbors and many, many charities!

Kathryn retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 34+ years working the night shift while raising seven children.

Over the years, Kathryn participated in several community organizations. She was a Den Mother, a member of the NAACP, Columbus Urban League, hosted a Coffee Klatsch for Columbus’ first African American mayoral candidate and was a member of President Obama’s Honorary Kitchen Cabinet, to name a few. She was passionate about her civic duties. While she was physically unable to go to the polls this year, she cast her vote early by absentee ballot.

Kathryn loved Christian conventions, bowling, gospel music, plays and shopping; you could always count on seeing her in the pew, dressed to the nines and was always wearing a hat! Mom had a hat for every season and every occasion.

Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Fred and Johnetta Henderson; brother, John Edward Henry; and stepson, Eugene Lockhart.

Kathryn leaves to cherish her memory, aunt, Deana (Stone) Carr (Alcoa, TN); sister, Irma Jean Tibbs (Columbus, OH); loving children, Frederick Lockhart (Rochester, NY); Roger Lockhart (Atlanta,GA); Marilyn (Woody) Paul, Jr. (Columbus, OH); David (Stephanie) Lockhart (Dayton, OH); Sandra Lockhart (Columbus, OH); Lisa (Mamadou) Tope (Columbus, OH); and Kim (Tony) Watson (Dayton, OH); grandchildren, Tracy, Kathryn, Stephanie, Alex, Jordan, David and Allassne; great-grandchildren, Marquis, Brooklynn, Lockett, Rhys, Lazer and Jordan; and a host of other relatives and friends.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing- 2 Timothy 4:7-8
