Deacon Larry J. Copeland was born on March 20, 1953, in Columbus Ohio, and entered eternal rest on April 29, 2021. Larry became a faithful and loyal member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in June 2004. He trusted and kept his faith in God and became a Deacon in the church on September 25, 2011. He loved serving as a deacon and was a member of the Senior Choir which he loved dearly. He took the honor in singing praises to the Lord and he loved his Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church Family.
Larry attended Eastwood Elementary, Champion Jr High and graduated from Columbus East High School. He attended Bowling Green University where he graduated with honors with a degree of Bachelor of Arts and Science.
Larry loved his children, grandchildren, and all of his family. On holidays he loved to cook out and have all of his family and friends over to eat. He loved sports, and his favorite teams were ‘The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and the MLB Baseball playoffs. There’s nothing like sitting with Larry watching sports. Larry loved to sing and anyone who knew him knew they could expect to hear him sing a variety of songs from his infamous music collection.
He is preceded in death by his father Raymond Phillips, Stepfather Cloyd Brown, son Raymond Copeland, Sister Carol Childs, Brother Michael Brown, Grand Parents, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving Mother and Caregiver Evelyn M. Brown; Siblings Wanda Childs (Caregiver), Michael Childs (Caregiver), Rodney (Tara) Childs, Sherry Lynn Brown, Levon Brown and Sulyman (Tamra) Brown; Children Larry Copeland Jr., Ashley (Desmond) Dowdell, Michael (Andrea) Copeland and a special nephew Quentin Childs who he helped raise; Grandchildren Kiarah, Peyton, Ziar, Tehillah, Zion, Lynnea, Domani, Malaysia, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Private Visitation 10:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, May 14, 2021 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 1535 Dewey Ave 43219. Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates. Ministry of Comfort entrusted to MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

Big Larry as he was called by family and friends will be missed. So many memories thru the years as Larry Jr. was growing up. I am sorry for your loss Larry. Your parents, Uncle Bill and myself(Aunt Cindy) have a special bond that will never be broken. May God comfort you and your family in the loss of your father and the girls grandpa. I love you “little Larry”.

without you sitting next to me, in sunday morning service. You will be forever missed.
I was a fifth grade teacher at Eastwood Elementary while Larry was there. He was not in my class but would stop by some times and hang out with all his questions. I enjoyed his visits because he had such an enquiring mind, asking the type of questions that revealed he would go far in academics. I was on staff at East High School while Larry was a student also. I had wondered about where Larry was earlier this year since I hadn’t seen nor heard any news about him as a “senior citizen”. I was so surprised to see his obituary as I searched for another one. I enjoyed seeing the video of his life journey. Such a blessed young man so glad he walked with Jesus and loved to sing His praises.
I literally had Larry “Blouche” on my mind for a few days and started looking on-line for him and came upon his obituary “celebration of life” and was in shock and disbelief. I was a good friend, acquaintance and classmate of Larry’s at BGSU. After graduation I moved to Atlanta, GA area and we loss touch for years but several years later reconnected. I am devasted and heart broken that I did not talk, pray and laugh with him prior to him going to Heaven. I hope to see him one day as my heart and prays go out to his family as I am heartbroken but thankful that he is no longer suffering and singing with the angels above. God Bless his family —

I will miss my friend of over 55 years. During all this time we never lost touch with each other. I know he is at peace now with the Lord. During hard times he always had a positive attitude. I will miss my friend.
