Lawrence C. Jones, age 64. Sunrise August 29, 1951 and Sunset June 15, 2016. Lawrence is preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Mae Jones, father, Lynwood Criss, and sister, Edna Grayson. Left to cherish his memory, wife, Cynthia Jones; sons, Lamont Banks, Jabbar Sharpe, Jamaal Jones, and Yusef Davis; daughters, Caren Woods, Lisa Sparrow, Carla Jones, Tyyetta Little, Deanna Davis, and Kyonna Henry; sisters, Shirley Fortson and Gloria Smith; 27 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Lawrence lived his life based on various scriptures and inspirational quotes. One he quoted and lived by was,” I’m the man you want to be”. He always said that he wanted to die with his boots on. Still doing the things he did from day to day. Those closest to him know he did just that. He fought death to his very last breath, with his keen sense of humor and playful jokes.

He wanted his funeral to be a true representation of who he was as a man. Therefore no suit and tie for Lawrence! He said, “ I’m a country boy, you ain’t never seen me in a suit so why now? Overalls and Boots for me!

At times Lawrence could be known as stubborn, resolute difficult and a little crazy. He lived life to the fullest and made all his decisions based on his children. Unfortunately in the process he became greatly Misunderstood.

So on this day let’s celebrate that Lawrence Cortez Jones has been called home to God and not to mourn the physical passing of his body. Lawrence would want us to be laughing and talking about all the good times not crying. He often joked of what to do with his ashes, but then he knew he would not be cremated. His ashes may not be able to be spread the way he joked, however his essence lives on everyday through his children and his works.

Visitation 10am and Funeral 11am, Thursday, June 23 2016 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE, 2500 Cleveland Ave. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.

The only thing I regret is that I did not meet your father sooner. I loved his mind and how he mentally challenged me and gave me some things to think about. I thank him for the man he made his son, my husband, Jamaal.
