Leonard Fred Lewis, Jr., affectionately known as Len/Lenny, was born in Columbus, OH on January 10, 1965, to parents Leonard and Maxine Lewis. Len graduated from Marion-Franklin High School in 1983 and enlisted into the United States Navy upon graduation. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA on the U.S.S. L.Y. Spear.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Len enlisted and served in the Air National Guard from January 1994 – May 2000. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded The Air Force Commendation Medal while assigned to the 164th Weather Flight, Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, in Columbus, OH. During this time, Len also attended Columbus State Community College and earned an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management Technology degree. Prior to his illness, Len worked in the trucking industry for many years. He was the proud owner of Double L Trucking Company, in addition to working for different transportation companies during his career.
Len loved all things Atlanta Falcons, collecting watches, music, spicy foods, iced coffee, and iced tea. He possessed a true passion for life, was quick-witted, loving, and a part-time comedian (in his mind). Len never met a stranger and always ensured you felt welcome and were enjoying yourself no matter the occasion. He was married to Angela E. Brown for over 15 years. Len took great pride in raising his sons and was a proud grandfather.
Len is preceded in death by his father, Leonard F. Lewis, Sr.; mother, Maxine E. Lewis; and son, Andrew Lewis.
Len is survived by his sons, Brandon Lewis, and Angelo Brown (Falycia Campbell); sisters, Melinda (Quincy) Howard and Lisa (Rodney) Hopkins; nieces, Sydney Howard and Ryan Hopkins; nephew, Reginald Hopkins; granddaughter, Aria Brown; aunts, Doris Whitfield, Rose Catling, Sharon Alexander, Michelle (John) Gordon; uncles, William H. Catling, Sr., David (Cathy) Catling and Harold (Betty) Lewis; girlfriend, Xenia Mancia; and a host of many loving relatives and friends.
