Sorry to read of Leroy’s passing. I had the privilege to work with Leroy on Squad 18. He was a good friend and firefighter. He also introduced me to golf and I have been hooked every since.

It saddens me to hear of the.passing of my friend Leroy, he was a firefighter’s firefighter. I remember there was a fire on Cleveland Av. And Leroy was on the back of Engine 18 , this house was fully involved and Leroy pulled BOTH beds of inch and a half off at the same time and took both of them to the front door, dropping one and taking the other one inside, at that point I knew he was my hero. RIP my brother!!

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Leroy. I thought of him as a man’s man. He was a classmate when I got on the CFD. We were the oldest men in the class. (April 1978) He had a great sense of humor and joyful disposition. When we had times to work together, I would always challenge him to arm wrestle. No, I never won. On behalf of our class and the many who were privileged to know him, I offer heartfelt condolences to the family. What a guy!

My condolences to the Johnson family sorry for your loss Leroy was my friend my compadre my workmate at station 18 where we were the only full on black company in Columbus at that time and we had fun being the only black company in Columbus he will be sorely missed

My deepest sympathies to Leroy and his family. I worked with Leroy for many years and was a good friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to Leroy and his family at this time of grief.

Leroy and I were in the same Training Academy class. He cared about the people he served, and he cared about the firefighters he served with. He was a good firefighter. He was intelligent and always quick to laugh. I enjoyed my time with him. He made a positive difference in the community and in the Fire Dept.

I had the pleasure of working with Leroy Johnson at station 28 close to 10 years. We didn’t get a lot of fire but quite a bit of EMS work he taught me a lot. But more than anything else I enjoyed the conversations and arguments that we had. The conversation Usually ended with him saying but that’s the way I am. What a wonderful and strong person to have shared life with.

We are going to miss you my brother. You had a unique since of humor. I remember playing BBall with you and that look you would have o you face and that laugh. You were a great man, mentor, and a great firefighter. Go too God there are many mansions.

My Condolences to the Johnson family. I worked with Leroy for 13 years. We had many conversations about the Fire Dept. and life in general. Leroy’s mission. Was to make life and the Fire Dept. as equal and fair to everyone as possible and sometimes you take heat for this but you keep on you quest. You were a strong brother and friend. So glad I got to know you. You can rest now!

I was very sad to hear of Leroy’s passing. I had the pleasure of; not only working with him on the CFD, but playing on the CFD Basketball Team, and Golfing with him many times! He was a great person and a very good athlete. I’ll always remember his laugh, and his favorite saying, “How do you think a guy like me got to be a guy like me”! Rest Well My Friend!

My condolences to the family Leroy always brings a smile to my face when he lived in Hartford Ct we learned how to play golf together we also played a lot of chess against each other all our friends played we were like family playing football also but as everyone knows Leroy didn’t like to lose that’s what made us such good friends he will surly be missed

To my Dad, Leroy “Lee” Johnson, you are missed. When Uncle Bill told me you were gone, I was heartbroken but I understand that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Thank you for loving me and my Chris (Christian) – your grandson. I miss our conversations, our thoughtful debates (both of us hate being wrong), and I will definitely miss our football rivalry. I will forever say Roll Tide, but will now add “how about them Buckeyes.” Love you and Rest In Peace Dad. No worries…we will all be ok.
