Leroy Scales was born July 2, 1932 in Carrollton, Georgia to Leslie and Mattie Scales, who preceded him in death. To this union 10 children were born, siblings proceeding him in death, his sisters, Lucille Ray, Mattie M. Scales, Barbara Scott, and one who passed away as an infant, his brothers, Charlie “B” Scales, Willie Frank Scales, Leslie Scales Jr., and Ulysses Scales.

Leroy’s family later moved to Holly Hills, South Carolina, where he was raised and attended and graduate from Holly Hills Robert High School.

Leroy served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 and was ranked E6, engineer staff sergeant and d fought in the Korean war.

Leroy was united in Holy matrimony to Peggy E. Scales for over 30 years. She preceded him in death. During their union, they raised five (5) children, Tyrone, Jacqueline, Tamara, Leonard, and Crystal.

Leroy was an excellent cook and worked for many years in the culinary arts at Kings Inn, Columbus, Ohio. He retired from Calvin Construction where he worked until his health would no longer permit him to work.

Leroy was a member of Franklin Lodge 203 of Elks in Columbus, Ohio. He actively attended Sunday worship service held at Buckeye Terrace Nursing Home in Westerville, Ohio where he also resided.

Leroy was a die hard Cleveland Browns fan and would not miss an episode of Family Feud on the Game Show Network.

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, Leroy heard God’s whisper, “My son come on home.” Leroy was also preceded in death by his son Tyrone Jones.

Leroy leaves to cherish his memories: One loving sister: Mildred Creasy Bacon, Three Daughters: Jacqueline (Robert) Ryan, Tamara (Robert) Johnson, and Crystal Jones: One son Leonard Scales; Twelve Grand Children; Thirty Great Grand Children; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, former son-in law Dale Featherstone, and two health care friend from Buckeye Terrace Nursing Home, Reyah “Ali Baba” Shyllon and Emma Kalokoh.

Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 2:00 PM Thursday, June 11, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
