Lester Deen Jones, a beloved member of the Mansfield community, passed away on September 3, 2023, in Mansfield, OH. Born on December 3, 1958, in Mansfield, he was a dedicated son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Lester was a talented musician, proficient in playing the piano and several other instruments. His passion for music led him to play for various churches across the country, including The Potter’s House in Dallas, TX.

In his early years, Lester showcased his musical abilities by performing with several bands, including the renowned Touch of Class. He was also a graduate of Malabar High School in 1977, where he not only excelled in his studies, but also displayed exceptional talent in track and field, earning numerous accolades and trophies. Thereafter he served in the United States Army.

Throughout his career, Lester made valuable contributions to the music industry, having the privilege to work alongside esteemed artists such as Patti Labelle and Samuel Peaks as a member of the Metropolis Band. His dedication to his craft and undeniable talent continue to leave a lasting impact on the music community. Lester was a trendsetter, coining the phrase “Trampin”, where he then created his own clothing line called “Just Tramp’ N” that he used to fund his Homeless Ministry.

Lester was also known for his role as a Union President in the welding industry, serving faithfully at Hartman Electric. His commitment to his work and strong leadership skills made him highly respected among his colleagues. He was also an advocate for the homeless. Deen was truly the jack of all trades and a master of a few. He loved to laugh, joke, and entertain anyone around him, especially his family. He was truly the life of the party.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacqueline and Robert Jones and brothers, Roger Jones and Vincent Jones.

Lester Deen Jones leaves behind a cherished legacy. He is survived by his loving children, Delonta Muhammad, Shawanda Nicole Boyd, Dejon Jones, Daniel Barnett, Robert Reynolds, Tiza Jones, Anisha Boyd, Dominique Jones, Lavier Scotty Hood, Capri Pointer, and Artension Pointer; siblings, Pamela Jones and Robert (Kassandra) Motley and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, special friends, Pastor Leo Smith, Catherine Pointer, Destry Canada, Howard Eubank, David Jones and other family and friends.

  23. I met Lester when he came to the V.A. in Dallas we developed a friendship thru music and being military brother’s, I remember Deen enjoyed being there for people, especially the homeless,and always trying to do the right thing, rest easy my brother.
