On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at 4:44 pm, the angel of silence came into Room 6, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, and with chilly fingers sealed the lips of our loving sister, aunt, niece and cousin, LISA MARIE WATKINS. At the age of fifty- six (56) years, her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow and pain, to a place of eternal rest.

Lisa’s earthly pilgrimage began on Saturday, December 18, 1965, in Beckley, West Virginia, when she was born the baby of six and the only girl of Reverend John Earlie and Lois Virginia Buster Watkins, who preceded her in death.

Lisa spent her childhood and most of her adult life in Beards Fork, West Virginia. She was a life -long member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church. Lisa loved to sing, and her sweet voice rang out in praise as she often sang her favorite Baptist hymns. Lisa knew every verse of these songs by heart, and she was not going to stop until she sang every verse.

Although Lisa was born with a disability, she did not let it define who she was or what she thought. She was an absolute joy, and she loved being the center of attention. Lisa did not mind telling you “NO”; and if you did not understand, she would spell it for you!

Lisa had a special love for her five brothers, especially Johnny. She always wanted to make sure that Johnny was ok; and she did her best to care for him when she was home. Lisa moved to Columbus, Ohio, in October, 2018, to live with her brother, Gregory, where she remained until her passing.

Lisa loved living in Columbus, and she loved her Ohio family dearly; including the Higher Ground Church family. She enjoyed constantly being around people.

Lisa was preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents, Elbersole and Edna Buster, paternal grandparents, James and Mattie Watkins and brothers, Gerald Watkins, SP5 Emmanuel Watkins and Gary Dewayne Watkins

Lisa leaves to forever cherish her memory: brothers, John Thomas Watkins, Gregory (Deborah) Watkins; sisters-in-law, Wilma “Tee” Watkins, Krystal Watkins, Twana Watkins Price; Nieces and Nephews, Brian (Patty) Watkins, Braylyn Watkins, Bakita (Lamont) Amos, Michelle Watkins, Tiffany Watkins, Taniqua (Brandon) Palmer, Tajuana (Johnny) Jones , Gregory Watkins, Justin (Jessica) Watkins; uncle, Dr. Sherman S. Watkins; special cousins, Dorethea Smith, Lynn (Billy) Austin, Kathryn Coles, Freda (Emmit) Patterson, Priscilla (Bobby) Williams; close friends, Charlene Newkirk and Kim Barrett and a host of other relatives and friends.

Lisa will be greatly missed by all that loved her!!!!!

Condolence from Erma Swanson on December 30th, 2021 3:38 pm

When I first saw Lisa, she was something in me. Lisa is a beautiful lady, and have a beautiful smile too. I ask her that you need anything, said no. she told me in the nice way. Lisa is a beautiful lady inside, and out. Me, and Lisa talk, when we have a home going service, or when there’s a food pantry going on. I look at Lisa as a sister, just like I at Greg and his wife Deborah as a brother and a sister-in-law. Lisa has a beautiful personality, she talk, and I listen to her when I was waiting for my ride. I going to miss her, and her beautiful smile too. I know she’s in a great place. RIH Lisa.

I love you Lisa.

Erma Wonita Swanson.
