WalkerLouretta

Lourettta Emily Walker, age 100. Sunrise November 3, 1917 in Ashland, KY and Sunset April 6, 2018 in New Albany, OH.

She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Ashland, Kentucky in 1938. She met and married Charles H. Walker right after graduating high school. They left Ashland and moved to Columbus in 1939.

She worked for the State of Ohio Social Services as a case manager. After years of helping family’s manage their homes in various ways, she retired in 1979. Her passion was helping problem single mothers, children, and young adults. Her other passion was to sew, and she would happily sew for anyone at anytime. She also was a social butterfly. She enjoyed life and she loved her family and she knew her family loved her. She was a giving person and she gave unconditionally from her heart. She’s been called by many loving and affectionate names but she’s most known as “sis” or “grandmother.” Whatever name you called her, she loved it because it meant that you took the time to spend with her, to talk to her, stop by to see her, love on her, she loved that because she would always say “when someone gives up their time for you, it’s priceless!”

Louretta is preceded in death by father James “Taylor” Dawson, mother Amanda Higgins, stepfather Ray Higgins, son Robert V. Walker, siblings George Dawson, Jean Barrows, Pete Dawson, Betty Wade, Albert Dawson, Richard Dawson, and Ned Higgins.

She leaves to cherish her memory with husband Charles H. Walker, children Robert “Victor” Walker, Charnetta Clark, Debra Burnette, siblings William Dawson, Martha (Ed) Franklin, Thomas (Kathy) Dawson, grandchildren Saundra (Troy) Cunningham, Alia Baukman, Victor Walker, Ron Clark, Dhameera (Tim) Waller, Dominique Burnette, Tamara Clark, Amira Walker, 20 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, special friends Frances Cattledge who supplied her with candy all the time, long time friend Iris Palmore, also a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation 11:00am and Funeral 12:00 noon Friday April 13, 2018 at First Church of God 3480 Refugee Rd.
