Magelene Miller

Sister Magelene “Maggie” Miller was born January 9, 1945 to the late Leon Miller and the late Claudia Chaney Miller. She was the eighth of nine children born of this union, in Myrtlewood, Alabama. She was baptized at an early age at Jerusalem #1 Baptist Church in Myrtlewood, where she attended until relocating to Ohio. Sister Maggie attended the Marengo County Schools, graduating from Linden Academy in 1963.

After high school, Sister Maggie moved to Columbus, Ohio where she secured employment at White Castle
Restaurants and later with the Columbus Police Department. She received specialized training in the area of juvenile justice and was certified to work in probations with high-risk populations. Her passion for youth continued throughout her life in her professional and personal endeavors.

Sister Maggie had a lengthy and successful career at AT&T, the former Ohio Bell, retiring after many years in the areas of customer relations and management. During her employment there, she continued her educational pursuits, completing business management coursework at Franklin University. Sister Maggie was later able to apply her experience and skills in the creation of her own business, Miller Janitorial Services. She was also able to incorporate her desire to help others, employing neighborhood and community youth.

Sister Maggie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church (Columbus, Ohio) and later Mount Carmel Community
Baptist Church. She was particularly known for her love to sing. Her signature song was “There’s a Leak in this Old Building.” She was member of several choirs and often a requested soloist.
Sister Maggie was predeceased by her parents, Leon and Claudia Chaney Miller; siblings, Ruth Mark Miller, Andrew James Miller, Arthur Miller, Eddie Lee Miller, and Mary Miller Johnson; and her youngest son, Christopher Miller.

Sister Maggie’s memory will continue to be cherished by her son, Charles Wilder; sisters, Claudia Miller Rodgers, Motilda Miller, and Maxine Miller, all of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Christopher Miller, Jr., Keiaun Miller, and Kanaijah Harris; great-grandchildren, Demarye Miller and Jatier Harris; many nieces, nephews and extended family members; and special friends, Maryetta Harper, Francheska Sherman, Cynthia Stewart, Keista Wellington and Pastor Gloria Burge.
