Mother Marcella Flowers age 81. Sunrise August 1, 1939 and Sunset February 22, 2021.

Mother Flowers was born in Columbus, Ohio and raised in the Short North area known as, Fly Town. She attended Everett Junior High and Woodrow Wilson High School in Xenia, Ohio.  After graduation, Marcella pursued her nursing degree and later retired after 30 years of service from Grant Hospital.

Mother Flowers had unconditional love for her family. She enjoyed ceramic classes, talking on the phone with family and friends, enjoyed long car rides, traveling and playing Bingo Blitz on her tablet. But nothing compares to the love she had for God and her church family.

Mother Flowers was a faithful and loving member of Higher Ground Always Abounding Church, where she served as a nurse, member of the choir and a Church Mother.

Mother Flowers is preceded in death by her (father) James E. Nelson Sr. (mother) Elizabeth Nelson, (sister) Shirley Anne Nelson-Stewart and (daughter) Catherine Flowers.

Mother Marcella Flowers is survived by (brother) James E.  Nelson Jr.  (Rene Nelson) (children) Theresa Wilks (Drew Grayson) Shelia Flowers, Jeannie Johnston, Nikki Penn; (grandchildren) Shadena Carter, Octavia Flowers-Lewis, Joshua Lewis Sr., Dewayne Johnston, Dewight Johnston, Denise Flowers (Sam Praise) Jeffery Lauderdale Jr., Jason Penn, Jordan Penn, Jarius Penn; (great-grandchildren) Essence Carter, Ja’Nyce Flowers, Ja’Niya Flowers, Joshua Lewis Jr. (Bear), E’Nija Carter, Jaliyah Lewis and Jaylah Lewis; and her only (great great-grandchild) Kyrizma Sullivan, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Private Visitation 10:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, March 5, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.).
