Marcus Da’Shawn Friday-Lisath, age 24, was born October 31, 1992 in Columbus, Ohio to Roberta Friday. He departed this earthly life on October 5, 2017 at the Ohio State University Hospital main campus, with his family at his side.

 

Marcus life was short but blessed. From the age of 2 years old he began the biggest battle of his life. His medical challenges were many. He had an enlarged heart, high blood pressure, and kidney disease. He endured dialysis three times per week from the age of six years old.

In spite of these health challenges, Marcus sought to live a normal life. He didn’t like sympathy, He wasn’t a whiner, he just wanted to enjoy life with his family in friends.

Marcus pressed on. He loved sports. He was very competitive. Marcus and his big brother, Shaka, played little league basketball and football together, basketball at the Linden Recreational Center, and football at Koebel Elementary School with the Capital City Jaguars. He cherished his football trophies. When he could no longer play, he enjoyed supporting little league sports.

Marcus loved his big brother Shaka; Shaka was his best friend. They did everything together. They played video games together; they even got in trouble together. Mom, Roberta, recalls the time her sons played “hooky” from school. When notified, she asked the police to teach her sons a lesson. She requested that they be handcuffed and put in the police car, driven around the block and returned home. Needless to say, they learned their lesson, No more skipping school!!!

Marcus and Shaka confided in each other. Marcus was a very honest person all the time. No matter what, He would not lie! Everyone who knew him knew this. Sometimes it would hurt, but he would tell the truth anyway. Marcus enjoyed going out to eat, although he had dietary restrictions. His favorite foods were Macaroni and Cheese, fried chicken wings, gyros, and Chinese food. When Marcus was five years old he ate jalapeño peppers straight out of the jar as a dare. He enjoyed them and enjoyed spicy foods the rest of his life; he really liked crushed ice too.

Marcus had one major goal in his life. He lived each day for his six year old son, Jamario Da’Shawn. Shaka recalls how Marcus almost fainted as he witness the birth of his only son. Marcus loved Jamario dearly and cherished every minute he had with him. He spent a lot of time teaching him right from wrong. He wanted him to remember the time they shared together because Marcus knew his days were numbered. So, he spent quality time with Jamario as his health permitted. Shaka admired his brother’s strength, physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual. He marveled at his courage as he struggled through life.

Marcus no longer suffers. He is free from all pain. He believed in God from a young age. He always put it in God’s hands and trusted him with his life. His favorite Bible text was Psalm 23.

Marcus shared one final part of his life. He was an organ donor. He hoped that sharing his liver, which was in perfect condition, would save someone else from a life of pain and suffering.

He is preceded in death by uncle, Allen Lisath. He leaves to cherish his memory with his mother, Roberta Friday; son, Jamario Da’Shawn Lisath; brothers, Shaka Slade and Jose (Earlicia) Friday; sister, Kimberly Whitehead; best grandmother in the world, Sophia Chatman; girlfriend, Kimmi Kennedy; favorite cousin, Teshauna Lisath; good friends, Kenny Johnson, Damon Riley, and Susan Bankston; father figure, Floyd Cherry; and aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

Marcus will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Rest in peace beloved, until we meet again.

Visitation 2 p.m. and Funeral 3 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Beacon of Hope Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3311 Refugee Rd.
