MARCUS MARQUIS PAYNE was born in Columbus, Ohio,
on Wednesday, May 25, 1994. He was the son of Victoria Landrum
and Mark Payne, Sr. Marcus was a well-loved young man. He was a
proud graduate of West High School, Class of 2012. He studied
Business Management at The Ohio State University and furthered
his education at Columbus State Community College and the Trio
Upward Bound Summer Enrichment Program. September 2009,
Marcus was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Marcus enjoyed sports and staying active. He played baseball for
Georgian Heights, football for Westside Dolphins, ran track and
played basketball for West High School. Marcus was in the Boy
Scouts Webelos. He enjoyed exercising, playing basketball, and
playing Xbox video games. He especially loved watching animated
shows, like Naruto, with his nephew, Mark Ill. Marcus loved his
community and family.

Marcus was a hard worker. His employment journey includes
working in the sales department at Georgesville Nissan, HKT
Teleservices as an advocate, and was employed three and a half
years for Scarlet Management Group, where he advanced and had
a team of fourteen reps. Moreover, Marcus was selected to speak
at a business conference for being among the top employees,
resulting with a couple of paid conferences to Mexico as a reward.
In addition, Marcus worked two years at The Columbus Dispatch
Warehouse as a hopper feeder, a year at Westland Area Library as
a shelfer, and a season for the Columbus State Community College
Athletic Department as a summer assistant.

Marcus had an entrepreneurial spirit and aspired to be in business
with his brother and uncle. He wanted to also give back to the
Westside/Hilltop community by providing food or other items of
need. When asked how he was doing, Marcus would reply either,
“Cool as ice water,” “Work hard to make money,” “Stay Sucker Free,”
or “It ain’t that serious.”

He was always polite and respectful. Marcus’ philosophy was if
something needed to be done . . . to just do it. Marcus was always
figuring things out for himself, before asking for help. He would
say . . .
“I’M A MAN NOW; I GOT THIS!”

Marcus was a person who enjoyed life and saw the light in every
situation. Marcus showed respect to his elders and love to the
innocence of children. He didn’t mummer when he had an objective
to complete and could lighten a dampened mood. Marcus liked
thinking outside the box to solve problems. For example, he
researched buying and watering his two Venus flytrap plants for
the house.

GONE TOO SOON. Our beloved Marcus M. Payne departed this life
on Saturday, September 11, 2021. He was twenty-seven years of
age. He was preceded in death by his great grandparents, Mike
(Ruthie) McGee, Wade (Lethia) Jordan Sr., Robert (Dorothy) Payne,
and Grandpa James “Jake” Turner, Sr.

Cherishing his memory include his mother, Victoria (Alfredo)
Landrum; father, Mark Payne, Sr.; brothers, Mark Payne Jr., Maurice

God, thank you that you promise to be our refuge, our safe place, our protector, and our shelter when we are battling through a storm. I pray that you would provide that shelter for my family who has to say goodbye to their child, our cousin, brother, grandchild , nephew. Help us to surround our family with Your love during this time, and give them peace so they would know you love them and have not abandoned them. Give them the strength to take one day at a time, one moment at a time, and one step forward at a time.

Me and Marcus have been locked in every week for about a year . Since day 1 he always gave off good vibes you could tell his spirit was right . We always chopped it up about life what we had going on at the time . Marcus really loved to travel and see the world Shoutout to his brother Mark who set up the Dubai trip for him , the way he talked about that specific trip I could tell it was something he would never forget .

To his mother father brothers & the rest of the family I send my deepest condolences. I pray you all find peace within someday . I pray this tragedy brings you all together even stronger rather than tear you apart.

Long live Marcus , love you my guy

Family –

Words can’t express how heavy my heart is for all of you. I prayed daily for a miracle of some sort.
I can still hear him laugh and it brings tears to my eyes. No one wants to ever have to be in this circumstance that you are dealing with and my heart is so broken. The bond that is shared between “the boys” is special and a true example of brotherhood. Stand strong in the Lord and my he bring you comfort in the trying times and joy with the memories.

My love and condolences to you all

Melle

Condolence from Robert Hill on October 11th, 2021 3:31 pm

My family and I had the pleasure of working and spending time with Marcus for three and a half years. I can say I haven’t meet many more people with a more positive outlook on life. He had a knack for making things work and finding the silver lining in almost anything. I had the opportunity to see him grow from a young man just trying to make it and wanting better for himself to someone who had the skills and ability to make the tough decisions that were best for him and those around him in life and in business. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying Marcus made an imprint on my life and I’m forever grateful for the time, love and energy God allowed him to spend with me.
