Anna Marie Gaston born January 03, 1953 in Los Angeles, California, went home to be with the Lord on June 5, 2018.

At the age of ten Maria’s family moved to Columbus, Ohio. She grew up in the Brentnell area. Maria was an exceptional athlete, she was good at track and had a passion for softball. She participated in the Brentnell girl’s softball team. As a youth she attended Bishop Hartley High School. After high school Maria went into the workforce as a typist for Nationwide Insurance.

At the age of twenty-six Maria married the love of her life William Gaston. The two raised their children on the south side of Columbus. Maria had a deep, love for sports, especially basketball. The Cleveland Cavalier’s were her favorite team. She enjoyed spending time with her children and her grandchildren. Maria had long-lasting friendships with many people. She loved going to church, she knew the lord for herself. Some of her favorite songs include Joy by the Georgia Mass Choir Featuring Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams, Open My Heart.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband William Gaston Jr; parents, Eleanor and Oscar Cunningham.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Nikki Cunningham; son, William C. Cunningham; Grandchildren, Sirrico Harrison, Vinche Cunningham, Maronni (Todd) Pearson, Anthony Barnes, Ariana Gaston, Mariama Gaston, William C. Gaston Jr., Adrien Doughty; Great-grandchild, Vinche Cunningham Jr.; Brothers and Sisters, Julie Payne, Teresa (Cecil) Harvey, Patricia Cunningham and Tony Jones and Gina Cunningham; Brothers, Anthony Cunningham, Mike (Jewell) Cunningham, Tim ( Linda) Cunningham, Dan Cunningham and Vikki Perry as well as a host of nieces , nephews, family and special friends.

Visitation 2:00pm and Funeral 3:00pm Saturday, June 16, 2018 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

To the family of Maria, you have my deepest sympathy in your loss. When someone you love dies, it is as if you have been robbed of a precious jewel! God knows how you feel, and because of his undeserved loving kindness, he allowed his son Jesus Christ to die so that those excercising faith can have everlasting life! (John 3:16) May you have faith in his promise of the resurrection of the dead, and to eliminate death forever! (Acts 24:15; Isaiah 25:8)

T and Will, My deepest condolences to you, My mom, Ms. Mona sends her condolences to you and your family also. I’m glad she’ s at peace and with her husband. A lot of good memories with Ms. Maria from back in the day of the southside,/whittier street area. I know there are no words that could offer much comfort, but know the strider family loves you and you brother, even though we haven’t seen each other in long time. Stay strong “T”, and know you are in our prayers.
