
Marion Jean Shoulders passed away peacefully at The Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Ashland, OH.
Jean was born on April 10, 1936 in Canton, Ohio. She attended Mansfield City Schools and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
Jean was the first African American cashier worker in Mansfield. She was employed by T&A Saveway, Fisher Fazio’s, Harman Electric Company and the Mansfield Public Library over years.
Jean also appeared in the Mansfield Holiday parade on the Saveway float.
She loved traveling, bowling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, baking and making her delicious macaroni and cheese.
Most importantly she was a role model for her two sons.
Jean is survived by her two sons, Tony (Liz) Shoulders, Sr., Lorain, Ohio and Dana (Kay) Shoulders, Mansfield, Ohio; sisters, Barbara Coleman, Mansfield, Ohio and Rita Shoulders, Holly Hill, Florida; grandchildren, Tony Shoulders Jr., Memphis, TN, China Shoulders and Dana Shoulders Jr both of Mansfield, Ohio; five great grandchildren, special niece, Veronica Beard, Detroit, Michigan and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Everett and Gatha Shoulders; sisters, Judy Shoulders, Linda Shoulders and Dorothy Elder; brothers Everett Shoulders Jr., George Shoulders, Richard “Wiggs” Shoulders, Oscar Shoulders, Charles “Moody” Shoulders, Clarence “Coke” Shoulders and James “Nip” Shoulders.
Visitation 12:00 noon and Funeral 1:00pm Saturday March 5, 2022 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE MANSFIELD 753 McPherson St. (formerly Williams Funeral Services). Interment 10:00am Monday at Mansfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in the name of Marion Shoulders to The Mansfield Public Library or Alzheimer’s Association.
