Mark Aaron Barnes Sr. entered eternal rest on Tuesday July 20, 2021, with his children by his side.

Mark was born August 6, 1959, to the late Simon Price and Antoinette Ethel Bradford Barnes, in Columbus, Ohio.

Mark was educated in Catholic schools where he attended Wehrle High School, where he was a member of the football team and graduated from Bishop Hartley High School in 1977 where he ran track, played basketball, and baseball.  Mark was employed by BP/Englefield Oil for 14 years and worked for the State of Ohio at the BMV and in General Services Division (GSD) for several years.  In addition to his long-term employment with the State and BP, Mark was also employed by Columbus City Schools, Columbus Recs and Parks, Piketon Lanes, and Columbus State Community College, while also working evening and night shift as an assistant and cook at a local market.  Mark found his way to supervisory positions which is a testament to his strong work ethic.

Mark was an avid bowler, he loved baseball, and one of his favorite hobbies was fishing.  Mark was a faithful friend, and he loved his family unconditionally.  Mark was known for his love for his children, often saying, “I don’t play about my kids”.  Mark was also known for his wittiness, his sarcasm, and his one-liners and quotes such as, “You Fruit Loopin’” or “You can teach smarts, you can’t teach intelligence.  Intelligence is hereditary”.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents Simon Price and Antoinette Barnes; two brothers Juan “Gary” Barnes and Byron Barnes, two sisters Stacy Williams and Erica Barnes.

I would like to send my condolences and prayers to the family. I came to know Mark from going to the station daily where he worked. He was a dedicated employee to say the least . He was a strong willed man ,who would come across as tough, but had a heart of gold. We became friends and would talk often about the way the world is today.

I considered Mark a friend and will truely miss him and his witty ,sassy comments.
Fly high in the blue sky my brother!! You will be missed!

My prayers and condolences to the Barnes family. I grew up with Mark, we were friends and went to school together at St. John XX111, Holy Rosary, Wherle and graduated together at Bishop Hartley. We played Basketball together at Holy Rosary, Wherle and many times after school. I’m really sad to here of his passing. I’ve haven’t seen him since 78, but often tried to find him.
