Mary Elizabeth Evans, age 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio. Mary was born on June 29, 1944 in Bluefield, West Virginia. She graduated from North High School and attended Cosmetology and Massage Therapy School. She retired from Franklin County Job and Family Services as a Social Worker.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, James Edward Mitchell, Sr. and Mabel Smith [Hagwood]; and brothers, Gordon S. Hagwood and James Earl Smith.

Mary leaves behind her children, Mark Evans, Deanna (Melnea Paige) Evans, and Michael Evans; grandchildren, Marcus Evans, Tyler (Skyler Ortiz) Baker-Ortiz, Tara Evans, Kolby Evans, Maxine Evans, and Jaelyn Evans; great granddaughter, Alyssabeth Luna Evans; sister, Nelvina Holloway [Smith]; brother, James Edward Mitchell, Jr.; life-long friends, Precilla Wilson and Patricia Street; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary’s family and friends will always remember her as a loving, funny and encouraging soul. She loved to visit the casino, go to restaurants, read endlessly and watch her favorite television shows like The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Visitation 1:00pm and Memorial Service 2:00pm Monday, March 8, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
