Mary F. McClain peacefully departed this life at Mt. Carmel East Hospital on August 22, 2022. Mary was born January 1, 1942 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and was the oldest of four children born to the late Edward and Frances Sanford.

Mary was very loving and caring; to know her was to love her. Growing up, she was very active in school. While attending Holloway High School she was involved in activities such as playing clarinet in the band, a cheerleader and a majorette. She was also homecoming queen her senior year in high school. After graduating high school she attended A & I State University, now known as Tennessee State University in Nashville, where she received a degree in Nursing.

Later marrying her soulmate and love of her life, Elbert McClain, who she lovingly referred to as Mac, relocated to Columbus, Ohio where they both became members of Hosack Street Baptist Church. Both Mary and Elbert were avid sports fans and loved watching cowboy movies. She was also a great cook and baker, making dishes that were enjoyed by many. Mary was employed at St. Ann’s Hospital, retiring after 34 years of service.

Other than her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51-years, Elbert McClain; sister Jeanette Sanford, aunt Elizabeth Drew and step-son Vincent McClain.

She leaves to cherish her memory – two daughters Teresa Graham (Moses), Taiwana McClain; two sons Torey McClain (Tausha); Mariqez McClain (Nyanza) all of Columbus, Ohio; one step-son Elbert McClain (Alicia) of Fairfield, California; sister Gail Randall and brother James Sanford both of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and aunt Mary Davis of Nashville,Tennessee. Grandchildren Kiara (Allen), Aliyah, Quinton, Toria, Tauja’nae, Tayshaun, Ty’rek, Tre’vionn, Ty’aun, Antoinette, Marlon, Mariquez, Marquell; nieces; Shavika Kalei and Kayla, nephews; Farrurti, Shavis, James Sanford, Jr., Kevin and Kyle, step-grandchildren Vincent Jr., Ricky, Debra, Paige and Dierre.
