Matthew L. Montgomery Sr., 53 years old, gained his wings unexpectedly on November 3, 2021 and went home to be with the Lord. He was born on July 5, 1968 to Matthew Echols and DeVonna Sue Montgomery.

Matthew had a smile that lit up an entire room. He was the most loving caring person you could meet. Anything one may have needed, he gave it. To know him was to love him. He will be missed more than anyone could explain.

Matthew attended South High School. They say he was a bit of a basketball player with a little jumper. Matthew also coached the little league Springfield Little Tigers for approximately seven years. He was known for always having a clean Cadillac or an Old School vehicle of some sort. He enjoyed watching football on Sundays as he was a Die Hard Cowboy fan. His love for dem Cowboys was something fierce. He was a great father and grandfather. I kind of think he may have loved the grands a bit more than his kids.

Matthew’s memory will be cherished by his wife Christina Hernandez; Children, Matthew (Ariel) Montgomery Jr., Ciera (David) Montgomery, Treyvon (Ashley) Montgomery Sr., Nyia Montgomery,  and Marissa Montgomery; Grandkids, Ja’Lynn, Ja’Nyia, Kahlil, Tre’San, Armonee, David Jr., Treyvon Jr., Laylah, Tristan, My’Sonn, Ty’Meir and Achilleas; Brother, Derrick (Larissa) Montgomery; Sister, Stephanie Montgomery; Special Sister, Jamey Bradley; Special Brothers, Duncan (Elaina) Bradley, and Lawrence (Cubby) Beavers; Special Nephews, Stephen (Sherri) Montgomery Sr., Stephen Jr., Stephan, Shiloh and Sakai; Special Cousins, Erinn Echols, Calvin Echols and Martel Owens; God kids, Alaisha Long, Ryan Long Jr., and Dontéz Bradley and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Matthew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, his parents, and his sister, Erica Montgomery.
