Maurice Patton, (Affectionally known as DUSTY) age 73. Sunrise May 30, 1949 and Sunset May 18, 2023.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, Maurice graced the earth on March 30, 1949, to Bernice Hill-Patton and Hubert Patton; he
was the fourth of their eight children. Maurice made his transition on May 18, 2023. He was preceded in death by
his father, mother, aunt Evelyn, siblings: Paris, Gregory and Francis, and son, Christopher.

Maurice attended Paul Cornell Elementary and Emil G. Hirsch High School. After graduating high school, in 1969, he
proudly enlisted into the U.S. Army, where he was trained as a Lineman/Wireman. Upon discharge from the
military, Maurice attended Dawson Technical Institute of Kennedy-King College (formerly Dawson Skill Center),
where he achieved a certification in Construction Technology, after which he began a long-term career with the
City of Chicago, having several positions before becoming an electrical draftsman at the Bureau of Electricity prior
to his retirement. Alongside his tenure at the City of Chicago, Maurice enjoyed performing general contracting
work, which he was highly skilled and had a great eye for detail. He married his childhood friend, Cheryl Craig in
1995. Maurice often spoke of his love for God and was a dedicated member of the United Church of Christ in
South Holland, Illinois until he relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 2016.

Raised in the Chatham area on the South Side of Chicago, Maurice made a plethora of memories that he often
shared. He was extremely personable and easy-going. He was an old school, ‘Chi-town’ bopper/stepper and loved
all music including jazz. He had many hobbies, which included shooting pool and a fondness to travel. He would set his sights on a
destination and work with AAA Motor Club to map out a route for his road trip. He had a love for cinema and
enjoyed going to the movies with his wife and watching Turner Classics, National Geographic, the Food Network,
and instructional woodworking programs tirelessly. In addition to a passion for travel, he was an avid fisherman
and could leave early in the morning and stay at the ‘fishing hole’ until late at night. He would take a few
sandwiches, soda, and water with him and was set for the day! Maurice loved fishing so much that he lovingly
taught everyone from his son to his great-niece to fish…whether they wanted to learn or not.

Maurice leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Cheryl, brothers: Tyrone and Jerry (Donna), sisters: Regina Stell
(Evie), and Evelyn Diane Patton, cousin Clifton Hill, nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, and a host of extended
family, close friends, and the entire ‘fishing’ community.

Condolence from Savannah on May 24th, 2023 5:04 pm

He was a wonderful patient and I’m happy that I had the opportunity to get to know him during the last few months of his life. I miss our Monday and Friday “hugs” as we called them, when I would lift him from one chair to the other. He will be greatly missed.

Beloved Cheryl and Family,
What fun we had!
I am flooded with the good times, laughter and good food we had together!
Traveling to Cancun and going deep sea fishing, the barbecues and the late nights!
We had fun together and lived our best lives!
Glad that Maurice is healed and gone fishing! Catching a boatload!
And Cheryl-simply the best-wife, friend, lover, caregiver and everything else!
May Peace, love and joy for the journey you had fill the space with comfort.
Now he is healed and at the fishing hole.
All is well!
Radical Love,
Hanai Sister Gwen

Dear Cousin Cheryl and Family,
God Bless you and the Holy Spirit bring you comfort and peace at this time. I pray that sooner rather than later your tears and sorrow will turn to joy as your fond memories emerge! Maurice will always be in my heart as I remember the great times we all had together as teenagers in your home. Listening to music, dancing and having fun is what I remember always. Thank God for family, friends and memories!
