Melba Redd was born May 24, 1939 in Bluefield, West Virginia to the late Edward Redd and Mattie Lee Bailey Redd. Melba departed this life on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 83. Melba was the youngest of 11 siblings.

Melba was a graduate of Park Central High School, Bluefield, West Virginia. Her family relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1955.

Melba was a devoted lifetime member at Woodland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she worked and served in numerous capacities and remained faithful until illness prevented her participation.

Melba retired from the former Columbus Developmental Center (State of Ohio) in 1989, enjoying 30 years of public service as Residential Assistant.

Melba loved her family and friends. She especially cherished family dinners and gatherings. She was so proud of the resurgence of the “Redd Family Reunion” led by her nephew, Cecil Diggs on July 19, 1996 and hosted in Charleston, West Virginia.

Melba Redd is preceded in death by her parents; Edward Redd and Mattie Lee Bailey Redd, brothers; Thurmond Holley, Edward S. Redd, Sr., Thaddeus G. Redd, Sylvester H. Redd and James Holley, sisters; Leora Holley, Mary Alice Phillips, Thurmond Howard, and Letha Dawson, special cousins; Staralee Robbins and Mary Mizelle.

Melba is survived by her sister; Sylvia A. Smith and brother-in-law; Johnnie Phillips, Sr. (Mary Alice), sister-in-law; Reverend Arzolla Phillips (Ernest), adored nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Dearest and life-long friends; Blanche Perkins, Robert Saunders and Michelle Hardy.

Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Prayers for all of My Family during this Time. I haven’t seen Aunt Melba since My Grandmother’s Funeral who was her Sister in Law. Aunt Melba was always Sweet and Kind and will be Missed️️

Heaven certainly gained an angel when Ms. Melba went home to be with the Lord. She was a sweet, kind and encouraging person. We the members of Woodland Christian Church will certainly miss her. Rest in Peace.
