Melvin E. Johnson AKA “Jim Dandy” was born on April 25, 1935 to the late Allen and Dorothy Johnson,in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He entered peaceful rest on November 23, 2020 at his residence.
Melvin was baptized and also attended school in Yazoo City, Mississippi. He attended Triedstone Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Melvin was employed at Clark Grave Vault, Nationwide Auto Parts, and Swan Cleaners in Columbus, Ohio.

At a young age, Melvin played baseball and he excelled at it. Melvin was an avid pool player. Melvin had a passion for gardening. He entered several contests at the Ohio State Fair Horticulture Competition. Melvin won many awards for his gardening skill. Melvin and his brother Louis were very competitive over who had the best garden. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents Allen and Dorothy Johnson; son, Melvin Johnson Jr.;daughter, Denise (Niecy) Johnson; brothers, Louis, O. C., Lee Arthur and William Johnson; sister, Verlena Headd.

He leaves to cherish his memories, sons; Eugene (Yolanda), Jerome (Sonya) and Freddie Johnson; daughters,Michelle (Bill) Collins, Pia and Pausha Johnson; stepchildren Curtis and LaSaundra Johnson, Robert and Dextray Barnett, Jackie McKinney, Billie and Marvin Patterson, Stephanie (Brent) Bracely; brother, James (Mary) Johnson; sisters, Dorothy (LeRoy) Brown and Diane (Robert) Harris; several grandchildren and step grandchildren. A host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

PRIVATE Visitation 1:00 PM and Funeral Service 2:00 PM Saturday, November 28, 2020 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.

A MASK AND TICKET IS MANDATORY.
