Mildred Olga Markham, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all she met, a healthy, spirited and kind soul, died unexpectedly in her home on October 9, 2020 at the age of 76.

Mildred was born on November 10, 1943 in Colón Panama, Central America and emigrated to the United States in 1966. She worked for Columbus City Schools and retired after 30 years of employment. She also worked five years at Riverside Methodist Hospital. She enjoyed her work and used it to provide all that she could for her family, never missing an opportunity to “spoil her kids rotten” as she would often say. She loved to travel, enjoying cruises and visiting friends and family across the globe.

Mildred truly enjoyed being a caregiver. After retirement she worked for Morning View Care Center Community Services for over ten years where she cared for individuals with developmental disabilities, a job that she had deep compassion for. She never met a stranger and enjoyed being with people. She served as secretary, treasurer and ten years as president of OAPSE, Local 101. Mildred was an active member of St.Philip Episcopal Church, Columbus Ohio since 1969. She was a past president of Episcopal Church Women and served many years on the Altar Guild, Vestry and the 20/30 Club. Mildred was a member of the Red Hat Club for over five years and enjoyed monthly meetings and outings with this group. She was smart, loving and very kind. She will be deeply missed by her friends, family and all who knew her.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Martiza Antonio and son, Alberto Antonio; granddaughters, Nicolette Antonio and Makeda Nichols, greatgranchildren; Marques Brown, Jael Bennet, Amaris Ellis, nieces; Jasmine Ray, Hortencia Alexander, Gloria Little, nephew; Ernesto Alexander and a host of nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Randolph Smith and Edith Slater Smith, sisters; Hortencia Alexander Slater, Catalina Little, Mary Slater, brothers; Harold Slater and Enos Gray, grandson; Amir Robert Antonio.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday, October 26, 2020 at MARLAN GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave.
