Reflection of Life
Mildred Smith., 87, of Columbus Ohio, died Friday April 1, 2016 at the Saint Anns Hospital. She was surrounded by family and friends.
She was born to the late Roosevelt and Rosebud Chapman in Columbus Mississippi on November 23, 1928.
She is preceded in death by three sisters: Rosetta Hill, Susana Chapman, and Emma Brown; one brother Rosevelt Robinson; two daughters: Sheila Latham and Theresa Hannah; two grandson James Latham Jr., and Shawn Thompson; six brother-in-Laws, David, Willie, Sam, Johnnie, Charlie and Alonzo Smith.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Clarence of 57 years; two sons, Rev. Lee S. (LaNell) Hannah Jr., George H.(Bobbie) Hannah both of Columbus, Ohio; three sisters, Georgia Mae (June) Hutchinson of Durant, Mississippi., Dorothy Smith of Columbus, Ohio, Margaret-Jean Robinson of California; three brothers, Williams Allen (Doris) Robinson, Robert (Virginia) Robinson, and Roger (Helen) Robinson all from Mississippi; one daughter-in-law, Glenda Thompson; thirteen grand-children, twenty-six great-grandchildren (one in which they raised from birth and was granted legal guardianship, Jamie Yoest); three great-great-grandchildren; two sister-in-law’s, Maria Croom and Mary Baker, special friend, Johnnie Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.
Mildred was the first child of six siblings. She married Lee S. Hannah Sr. and later moved to Chicago Ill. From that marriage came 4 children, Lee Jr., George, Sheila and Theresa. After relocating to Columbus, Ohio from Chicago she later met and married Clarence Smith of Union Town Alabama. This union brought together a blended family of five children. Mildred accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age in Columbus Ohio. During her early adulthood, she worked for the Columbus School Board as a janitorial worker. After retiring, she assisted Clarence with managing their blacktop construction company. They later accumulated and managed 26 rental properties over the years that providing affordable housing to the public. During her leisure time, she really enjoyed working in her yard and growing all types of flowers especially roses. Even though she began to have a difficult time getting around, she expressed an eagerness to get back in the yard again. Fishing was another hobby she enjoyed. One of Mildred’s knowable lovable traits was helping others and found it very difficult to say no to anyone she felt was in need. She would accumulate things that she believes would be useful for someone at some point in time. In their real estate business, she was always giving renters extra time to pay their rent. Mildred is loved and will be missed by everyone.

Aunt Mildred, Truly a blessing growing up in Possomneck Mississippi you would always look forward to a visit from her and Uncle buddy and Aunt Dot Tee and Uncle David. She was truly a blessing to my mother and this family. Ours prayers are with uncle buddy and the entire family through these difficult times.Respectfully .
