Minnie Anderson was born in Greenwood Mississippi to Valedean and Roosevelt Anderson on March 27th, 1940. She was fourth of fourteen children. Minnie grew up a sharecropper on a pecan plantation in the Mississippi delta through the 1950’s. During her time in Greenwood, she had one son Orlando. Wanting a better life for her and her son, at 18 she decided the best thing was to migrate north. Minnie relocated north to Columbus, Ohio in 1958. She was a devoted mother and homemaker through the 1960s. In 1967, she met Harry Burst and the two quickly started a romance and later married in 1970. The two had one daughter and divorced in 1990, but remained best friends until he departed in 2014.

While raising her own kids, Minnie was a mother to many other children in neighborhood. She was always known as the “cool mom”. She would take in children as her own, giving them a place to stay, when they had nowhere else to go.

Once Minnie became a grandmother, her attention shifted towards her grandkids. She was very involved in their lives, even helping to raise some of them. Minnie was the definition of a matriarch. Each of her grandkids loved and had their own special bond with her.

Minnie passed away quietly Saturday, October 30th, 2021, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was the hilarious drill sergeant who happened to curse like a sailor. Minnie was fun, vibrant, hardworking, independent, amazing to talk to and never met a stranger. She always had a great story, and most importantly she walked to the drum of her own beat. Despite her beginnings, Minnie built an amazing life for herself and created a family who loved her and surrounded her with love until the very end.

Minnie is proceeded in death by her Parents; Valedean Roddy, Roosevelt Anderson Children; Orlando Anderson, Florence Anderson Grandchildren; Jimmy Russell Jr., Albert Thompson III, Aaliyah Ince. Ex-husband/ Best Friend; Harry Burst, Sibling’s; Viola Anderson, Claudette (Robert) Wilson, Verlon (Frank) Horton, Isaac and Bay Ray Anderson.
