Monica was born on January 3rd, 1973 to Rose Long and Willie Sankey. She was the only girl from her mother and father. Monica was married on February 19th, 1994 to Julian C. Obey, and they had two children, DeMarco and Jaonica Obey.

Monica had an infectious smile. You never had to guess what was on her mind because she was very outspoken. She loved bingo, it was her middle name. Monica was a devoted wife, mother, aunt, friend, daughter, sister and grandmother, loyal to all she knew and loved.

Monica was called home to be with the Lord on July 5th, 2016 at grant hospital.

Monica is preceded in death by father Leo Lyles, mother-in-law Barbara Obey, sister-in-law Angela Bazemore (Obey), best friend Lisa Washington, godson Ian Washington.

She leaves to cherish her memory, mother Rose Long, husband Julian Obey, children Demarco Obey, Jaonica (Bobby) Obey, Stepson Demetrius Nelson, grandchildren Ja’naijah Obey and Swayze Nelson, brothers Tony (Kelly) Thomas, Gregory Wilson, Leo (Tamara) Lyles, Richard Sankey, Antwan Sankey, and Calvin Sankey. Nieces Tizsonia Dawkins, Iesha Robinson, Lols Maxwell, Shanequia Dulaney, Kalynn Lyles, Anna Ewing, Shante Blue. Nephews Tony Dawkins, Bryan Battle, Dameon Burns, and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Visitation 11am and Funeral 12pm Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church, 461 St. Clair Ave.

To your entire family from the entire Lauderdale and Williams family, it is with heartfelt sympathy that we send our condolences to all of you during this great time of loss. It has been an honor to call her my best friend since childhood and I thank God so much for allowing me to be a part of her life when she needed a friend the most. Her memory will be forever kept alive in both my mind and in my heart. May God bless all of you with His peace that surpasses all understanding.
