Montrose P. Jackson Jr.

Montrose P. Jackson, Jr. made his transition to glory on July 12, 2022.
Montrose was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 7, 1931 to Montrose, Sr. and Rebecca Jackson who preceded him in death.

Montrose grew up in the historic “Flytown” section of Columbus and attended Columbus Public Schools. On June 27, 1954 he married the love of his life, Barbara Jean who preceded him in death on 8/23/2020 and who he dearly missed.

Montrose was a Korean War Veteran, where he served as a Corporal in the Army as a Paratrooper and Infantryman. He was awarded the National Service medal, the United Nations Service medal, and the Korean Service medal with two bronze service stars.

Montrose was a diligent and dedicated employee of: The Hi-Hat Cleaners and Swan’s Cleaners where he retired in 1996. Montrose was an avid jazz lover. He was a self-taught phenomenal jazz flutist who played with some of the great world renowned and local musicians of his era. He was so talented, many artists asked him to accompany them on world-wide tours; however he declined as he wanted
to be present for his wife and children. However, he continued to play locally in the clubs in the historic Mt. Vernon Ave. and Long St. areas of Columbus.

Montrose received the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1984 and was baptized and later joined the Macedonia Baptist Church where Quentin L. Respress, I was Pastor. To his family, he was affectionately known as “Tro”, “Dad”, “Grandpa”, and “Uncle Potch”. He was the beloved uncle and father of the neighborhood known as “Mr. J”. He had a quiet, gentle and kind way about him that always presented him as being the “ultimate cool Dad”. He was a surrogate father to many and was always ready to offer sage advice to help guide lives in a
positive and productive outcome. The talks with him were always about the truth of life and making the best choices. He loved all the children in the family and rejoiced in seeing his family make positive accomplishments in their lives.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted daughter; Kim Robinson, sons; Paul and David Jackson, grandchildren; Tiana (Kevin Fisher) Boozer, Kelly (Terrell) Howell, David (Joi) Griffin, great-grandchildren; Tanae Fisher, Kennedi Fisher, Kyree Fisher, Tori Howell, Taylee Howell, Taylor Griffin and Taylen Griffin, sister; Beulah Granger, brother-in-law; Nathaniel Pearson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
