Burger

Nora Dean Scott Burger (lovingly remembered as Mom, Grandma and Sister Deanie) was born on Thursday, August 19, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, to the proud parents of Samuel and Gertrude Marie Scott.

When Nora Dean was five years old, she migrated to Columbus, Ohio, with her parents, where she remained until her transition from labor to reward on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Nora Dean received her education through the Columbus Public School System, where she graduated from East High School. She also attended and graduated from Columbus Technical Institute (Presently Columbus State University) During her tenure in life, Nora Dean worked various odd jobs, but her most favorite was working Gate 8 at the Ohio State Fair and working the Horse Show at the Fairgrounds. She worked both positions every year until age 85 years.

Nora Dean left a legacy of fond memories of the time that she spent with family and friends. All the stories down through the years; how special they will always be from someone 96 years old. She will always be remembered as strong-willed and determined. She fought through so many obstacles, but she never let the devil get her down. She stood firm and fought until the end.

Nora Dean was a sharp dresser and she actually made most of her clothes. Her other hobbies included, crochet, playing the tambourine and the drums and sitting on her front porch enjoying her neighbors. Nora Dean gave her life to Christ at any early age at Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church under Bishop M R Gregory. She later attended Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Faith Church under Bishop Charles Grant and finally joined Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Church of God (Higher Ground) under Bishop Sherman S. Watkins where she remained until her passing. She served on the Mother’s Board
and Hospitality Committee. She was a faithful member of the Nurse’ Corp and she sang in the Agape Choir until age 72. Nora Dean (Sister Deanie) was well loved and she was everyone’s grandmother.

Nora Dean married Charles Burger on Saturday, December 15, 1973, and they enjoyed life, each other and their family until his passing in 2006. Nora Dean was also preceded in death by her parents; Samuel and Gertrude Marie Scott, sisters; Mildred Holiday and Mary Travis, son; Maceo Banner, grandsons; Macrino Craft and George Ellis.

Those left to celebrate her life and live out her legacy include: daughters; Nadean Ellis, Brenda (Holmer) Craft, Beverly (Gerald) Davis, Sharon Whitted, son; Ricardo (Carlla) Banner, grandchildren whom she raised, Isabela (ChaCha), Pillar (Peaches) and Robert; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS……

My deepest condolences for you loss. She was a force! I will never forget her pulling me aside in the 90s to tell me that she “liked” me! I was honored. Her honesty was powerful and her love was strong! She will be greatly missed. I am praying for all who loved her ❤️
