Mrs. Tommie Lee Boone

Mrs. Tommie Lee Boone went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, after an extended illness. Tommie leaves her husband of 53 years, Isom (Ike) Boone, Jr. and two daughters Tara Boone and Tameca (Douglas) Plair to cherish her memory.

Tommie Lee was the first born to the union of David Lee and Beatrice Myrtle Love on October 14, 1946. She was the eldest of five girls and three boys, born in Wilcoe, West Virginia. She graduated from Gary District High School, in Gary, West Virginia in 1964.

Tommie accepted the Lord at an early age and was a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, singing alto in the Sanctuary choir.

Tommie met Ike while she attended Bluefield State University before her family relocated to Columbus, Ohio in the mid-1960s. After settling in Columbus, she married the love of her life on August 3, 1968. Ike and Tommie had two girls, Tara Lynn and Tameca Alicia.

Tommie worked for more than 25 years at Nationwide Insurance as a Supervisor before retiring to begin her role as Nanny and caregiver to her three granddaughters Kaya, Jaida, Gabrielle and great-niece Chloë.

Tommie and Ike were Columbus socialites, attending cabarets with members of the Men Uniques and hosting card parties with their family and friends. Tommie was an avid bowler and was active with the Columbus leagues until her retirement. Tommie and Ike loved traveling to Vegas and going on Caribbean cruises.

Tommie was known for her impeccable style and loved fine jewelry. She hosted and attended numerous family gatherings, most notably her annual Thanksgiving dinners.

Tommie was preceded in death by her parents David, Sr. and Beatrice
Love; siblings David Love, Jr., Drucilla (Juan) Love, Edith Love; and nephews Marcus Love and Zac Wolman. Tommie will be sorely missed by her husband, Ike, daughters Tara Boone, Tameca (Douglas) Plair, granddaughters Kaya Boone, Jaida Plair and Gabrielle Plair; sisters Imogene Fields, Elizabeth (Susie)(Arthur, Jr.) Cook, brothers Ronald (Tina) Love, and James (Jessica) Love; sister-in-law Brenda Hill, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, April 15, 2022 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. Masks are required.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

    Bless the family of Tommie!! And Bless her rest!! I worked with Tommie early days at Nationwide in rating/coding. I have thought about her often, and Shin Lee who was one of the many in our work section. I hear her giggle laugh in my head and her grinning smile is still infectious. Bless her heart!! Bless your hearts and memories to sustain you.

    Bless the family of Miss Tommie Boone Miss Tommie bowled with my mother and I’ll always remember her unique laugh. She was a beautiful lady and she will be missed yet your memories will out way the pain. Philippians 4:7-8.

  7. Tommie and I work together at Nationwide Insurance in the National Accounts department in 1991-1993. I enjoyed working with her and spending time sharing our family stories with on another. She had a great sense of humor and was wealth of knowledge for the Department.
